We have All Seen This
Why do They do That?
• Cyber-crime is business not hooliganism
• First and foremost they are after bank
details
• Your personal data will also do
• Your computer is a valuable resource:
– For hiding the tracks of their mean tricks
– For sending spam
– For attacking other computers
– For distributing child pornography or pirate
files
Cyber-crime
• The turnover in cyber crimes in the year
2006 could be compared to that of
trafficking in persons (9-12 billion $) and
the profits of cyber crimes could be
compared to that of drug trafficking
(3000%)
• In 2006 3.24 million computer crimes was
registered, that is one every 10 seconds
• Experts believe that 90% of the crimes
remain unregistered

• Malware constructors (MPack, Rock
Phish) and poly and metamorphic malware
are to blame
• A constructor costs 50-1000$
Increasing
Trend
• Even 11-year-olds get caught
• Mainly looking for pirated games
• Viruses to be disseminated in social
networks
• Sharing attacking techniques and credit
card numbers
• 15-year-old Michael Calce, a.k.a.
MafiaBoy
• was charged with committing DDoSattacks against Yahoo!, Dell, eBay
and CNN
• he got 8 months of minimum
security prison, a year of conditional
sentence and limitations on his use of
the Internet
Experience
• Filters do not work!
• Prohibitions without explanations do not
work!
• No-one else is responsible for your child!
• Personal role models are contagious!
• Laws must be abided by (you yourself
too)!
• Be there when you are needed!
• Learn yourself too!
• Just ask and you will be helped!
That’s it
Thank you for your attention!
