) Kelli: Nineteen Seventy Something is the fourth solo studio album by the American rapper, Masta Ace. To me this song is a story. It is a story about how Masta Ace's life use to be like in the 70s when he was just a kid. This song tells you of the kind of music that was going around, like the ones we provided above, and the kind of things kids were doing for fun back then. It also showed you who his mother is and how she acted with her family. The beat in this song is from MF Doom, and it is a dope remix of the old hit song from Otis Redding, "Your feeling is mine." Basically, the story is about Ace going through all of his mom's records and trying to pick out which is the best for him to record over. However, he knows he isn't suppose to touch or get near his mom's records but because he is just a boy, he does it anyway and takes her favorite record, Parliament. He eventually hears his mom going on a rampage looking for her record. He hears her blaming the uncle for taking it. Ace gets scared and knows if he gets caught, "that's his ass", or in other words, he is going to get beaten up. The record is still at Brian's crib and Ace calls him up to drop it off. When Ace finally returns the record, he thinks he has pulled of the greatest crime in the world. And as he is about to go out and play, he hears his mom shriek...busted! The mom finds a scratch and knows it was him! Overall, I like this song because the Agrimony beat is sick and I like Masta Ace. Plus the story is very entertaining and funny. Destiny: This is what rap used to always be about, free styling your story. This track was hilarious because it reminded me of my childhood. If i did something I was not suppose to do and my mom found out, I got hit just like he did. This track also helped me relate it to current artists in the rap game like J Cole and Kendrick Lamar. These are artists that use their lyrics to tell their story whether they are from Compton or North Carolina. I also found a interesting video that defines “gangsta rap.” I thought it was very interesting seeing different people’s views on this unique art. Part of the video shows the people like Snoop Dogg saying the real definition. That is, the meaning of “gangsta rap” is to send a message or storyline to the world of what is happening to the people in real life. I think this track relates to so much of this, even if it is about him getting caught scratching his mother’s record.
