FedEx again delivered the largest United Way fundraising
campaign in our region, surpassing all other totals with a
generous contribution of $5,113,768!
In addition to the great fundraising total, FedEx played a
large leadership role in United Way’s work for our
community in 2010. Two key FedEx executives led our
organization’s efforts to improve lives across the MidSouth. President and CEO of FedEx Freight Corporation,
Bill Logue serves as our volunteer Chairman of the Board
of Directors, and Senior Vice President of Human
Resources for FedEx, Shannon Brown served our region as
United Way’s General Campaign Chairman (read more
about these two volunteers on the next page).
raise awareness during fundraising season, including a 5K
run, golf tournaments, bake sales, barbecue cookoffs, ice
cream socials, carwashes and talent shows. These and other
special events raised over $130,000 for United Way.
United Way Board Chairman Bill Logue speaks at our
Annual Meeting and Campaign Celebration last February.
The celebration showcased volunteers and organizations
from across the region and saluted FedEx’s fantastic
campaign while sharing stories from people who benefit
from United Way funded programs.
FedEx was involved in our fundraising work in a big way
from the beginning of the campaign. They helped us kick
off the regional drive with a fantastic $1 million check
from FedEx Corporation to get the ball rolling during our
Day of Caring kickoff rally last September. The check
represented the first of FedEx’s corporate gifts, which
totaled $1,215,000.
FedEx has also provided volunteer support for United Way
of the Mid-South’s strategic plan and realignment work.
Ross McAlister and James Snead from FedEx Global
Leadership Institute served as facilitators for numerous
meetings with United Way staff and local politicians,
corporations, nonprofit agencies, labor leaders and other
community leaders to guide United Way in a new direction.
FedEx also provided the largest number of Loaned
Executives to our area. Loaned Executives work alongside
United Way staff to present information sessions and
manage fundraising activities at businesses across the
Mid-South. This year, FedEx provided 25 volunteer
employees in this vital role.
FedEx has the largest number of Leadership Givers in our
region (giving $500 or more in one year) and 46 Tocqueville
Givers (giving $10,000 + in one year). Tocqueville members
raised over $631,914.
FedEx creates a tremendous number of special events to
FedEx merged its FedEx Cares Week activity along with the
United Way Day of Caring event in 2010, creating even
more volunteer opportunities for hundreds of employees.
Volunteers were matched with large work projects at local
nonprofit organizations, giving employees a first-hand look
at many of the places where their donations make a
difference. They were able to see how crucial it is to
contribute to programs that impact our community. Before
leaving for their worksites on FedEx Cares Day, employees
enjoyed a rally on the grounds under a giant tent with
breakfast, live music and executive presentations. The 2010
FedEx Cares / United Way
Day of Caring activities
were coordinated by
Camille Washington, FedEx
Customer Information
Services, Parul Bajaj, FedEx
Services, and Heather
Coolican, FedEx Express.

United Way celebrated FedEx’s 1st place reign again this year
by announcing the company had raised $5,113,768 at it’s
Annual Meeting, held at the Peabody Feb. 24. FedEx has
been the top contributor in the Memphis and Mid-South
area for several years running now. With the most volunteers
participating in United Way’s Loaned Executive program,
FedEx shows why it is truly a leader in our community.
