Managing Director
Position Summary
1.
Promote and extend the mission of the Downtown Business Association of Baton Rouge:
The Downtown Business Association supports, markets and showcases its Members
and the Downtown Baton Rouge business community.
2.
Responsible for all fundraising, development activities, and event production on behalf of
the Downtown Business Association.
3.
Must exhibit professional and capable leadership, strong written and verbal
communications skills, provide experience in project and event management and
demonstrate excellent organizational skills while being a creative problem solver.
4.
Demonstrate experience and ability in fundraising, marketing, non-profit management and
business recruitment.
5.
Develop a plan to increase sponsorships, grants and investments in the various events
produced by the DBA, with particular attention to long term major sponsorships for the Live
After Five events.
6.
This position will require a person to be available and capable of handling normal duties
during regular business hours with extensive, flexible time commitment to evening and
weekend event demands.
7.
Professionally represents the DBA organization at all downtown public events and
activities relevant to benefiting the organization to include but not limited to; all ribbon
cuttings, DDD meetings, press conferences, etc.
8.
Assumes additional responsibilities and duties to further plan, implement, and promote the
organization.
Range of Duties
Administrative:
1.
Manage all administrative aspects of the DBA, including, but not limited to, meeting
minutes, financial bookkeeping, membership details, communication to the board, and
members.
2.
Deliver monthly report to the Board of Directors and bi-monthly report to the full DBA
membership.
3.
Develop agendas for all DBA meetings, including board meetings, executive committee
meetings and sub-committee meetings.
4.
Execute board decisions in concert with the executive committee - including policy changes,
new events, etc.
5.
Oversee the regular member events (8-12 annually) that are part of the DBA calendar.
6.
Organize budget outlines for annual purposes and individual events.
7.
Oversee the production of Spring and Fall Live After Five concert series.
8.
Assist in recruiting, maintaining and managing volunteers to assist with downtown events.
9.
Directly supervise other DBA employees and volunteers.
10.
Assist in the administrative functions of the Elections of Board Members at the Annual
Meeting.
11.
Act as liaison between DBA and key organizations, including, but not limited to, event
sponsors, the City of Baton Rouge, Visit Baton Rouge, the Downtown Development District
and Baton Rouge Area Chamber of Commerce, etc.
12.
Must be proficient in computer and online programs.
13.
Must be familiar with the By Laws of the Downtown Business Association and assist the
Executive Committee in assuring compliance with those By Laws.
14.
Manage day-to-day administrative duties, maintain DBA files and records in DBA DropBox.
15.
Responsible for maintaining a comprehensive data base to include but not limited to media
contacts, distribution lists, civic and community groups, etc.
16.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and executing DBA special events inclusive of on-sight
coordination, permits, insurance, production set-up and take down, support services,
volunteer coordination, budgeting, and sponsor development.
17.
Handles all arrangements for speaker engagements and public presentations; assist DBA
board and members in such appearances, and prepares program visuals and scripts.
18.
Acts as liaison between the DBA and Downtown Development District.
19.
Must maintain a regular downtown presence.
Public Relations/Marketing:
1.
Advocate on behalf of the DBA membership.
2.
Manage and maintain the DBA and LA5 websites and social media presence in an on-going
manner.
3.
Maintain positive relationships with community leaders and businesses not in the DBA.
4.
Act as DBA spokesperson to membership, media and the general public.
5.
Develop and execute public awareness plans.
6.
Provide direction for and execute public relations and marketing budget.
7.
Represent DBA on various community boards and committees.
8.
Responsible for preparation, production, and distribution of information and marketing
materials, publications, and websites such as sponsor packets, membership news,
directories, press releases, event posters and flyers, and provide information for new and
feature articles for inclusion in publications and reports.
Member Development :
1.
Assist current DBA members, as appropriate, in reaching their goals by meeting with them
on a regular basis.
2.
Add to the current DBA membership.
3.
Participate, as appropriate, with governmental and economic development organizations
focused on business recruitment to Downtown Baton Rouge.
4.
Maintain consistent, positive communications with DBA businesses and interests through
regular newsletters, updates, surveys, visits, etc.
5.
Plan Annual DBA Membership meeting/event and election of Board Members.
Fundraising:
1.
Serves as lead on all major fundraising initiatives including memberships, event
sponsorships, grants and foundation giving and work with the board to develop and
implement a comprehensive development strategy.
2.
Oversee and research all potential funding sources.
3.
Responsible for the development and execution of all sponsorship proposals by delivering
an organized, structured, and persuasive presentation using effective written and verbal
communication.
Position Requirements:
 College degree or equivalent relevant experience
 Computer experience
 Strong verbal and written communication skills
 Strong organizational and time management skills
 Must be self-motivated
 Must be professional
 Strong fundraising skills required
 Must have event planning experience
