Raven Open Ended Type 3 I think Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, “ The Raven” is a narrative because it follows the flow of a plot mountain, has a conflict, and theme. After this paper you will understand why “ The Raven” is a narrative poem. First off, “ The Raven” follows the flow of a plot mountain. The Raven has exposition in the beginning by starting the poem off with the setting, “ Once upon a Midnight Dreary” and description of the main character, “ I pondered weak and weary”. The poem also has the rising action, climax, and resolution. The climax of “ The Raven” is when the raven in the chamber said, “ Nevermore” because it made the main character angry and realize the raven was mimicking him. Also only narrative stories or poems have a climax, exposition, rising action, and a resolution. The story can’t be a persuasive or informative because those types of writings don’t follow a plot mountain. So that’s my first reason why “ The Raven” is a narrative poem because it follows a plot mountain next, is “ The Raven” has a conflict. My second reason is the poem, “ The Raven” has a conflict. The conflict is the problem of narrative stories or poems. There are many conflicts of “ The Raven”. Some of them are when the man in the poem constantly hears tapping, another problem is when the man missus Lenore, and the last problem is the raven still says nevermore. The conflicts help explain the plot of the poem by giving the problem which explains the main character. It explains why the man is troubled by the raven. I think the conflicts of the poem are amazing and only great narratives like the raven. So that’s my second reason, next is “ The Raven” has a theme. My third reason, “ The Raven” is a narrative has a theme. The theme is the moral of a story or a lesson that the character. The theme of The Raven is, “ What stays around comes around”. That’s the theme because the man tried hitting and yelling at the raven to get out. But the raven came up on his pallas and stills mocks no matter what. I think this theme makes the poem a narrative because even though poems do have themes, this theme teaches a lesson. Narratives almost always teaches a lesson at the end. So that’s why I think, “ The Raven” by Edgar Allan Poe is a narrative. The poem is a narrative because it follows the flow of a plot mountain, has a conflict, and has a theme.
