Midwestern University: Occupational Therapy Program- Level IA Spring 2012
Level I A assignments:
During Level IA fieldwork the student will observe and/or assist with occupational practitioners in
implementing occupational therapy evaluations and interventions. The student is expected to
interact with therapy participants to further develop therapeutic interaction skills. The student is
responsible for reviewing assignments with their fieldwork educator and discussing ways to achieve
the assignments. If the student will not have the opportunity to complete the assignments, please
contact the Midwestern Academic Fieldwork Coordinators to discuss alternative learning
experiences.
Case Study and Occupation- Based Activity Analysis
DIRECTIONS: For each level IA fieldwork placement the student will complete a case study and
an Occupation-Based Activity Analysis on the same client.
The case study (Part I) will not be submitted for a grade. However, the student should be prepared
to use this information to develop an occupational profile in OTHE 585 which will be graded.
Please use the OTPF-II as a resource when collecting this information and identifying additional
questions that will be helpful in developing an occupational profile.

Part II- Occupation-Based Activity Analysis
The main objective of this assignment is to use your activity analysis skills to describe how an
occupation was therapeutically applied in a clinical encounter during your FW Level IA experience.
This assignment will require you to recall key concepts from OTHE 540, namely the difference
between an activity analysis and an occupation-based activity analysis. Your responses will suggest
the therapeutic potential of occupations and how occupational therapists use activity analysis to
design therapeutic interventions.
Instructions: This assignment requires you to observe the same client you identified in your case
study. You are asked to complete the analysis form based on observations from a clinical encounter
in which an occupation was applied therapeutically. Keep in mind that you will use this initial
analysis in OTHE 585 to develop a clinical note and additional interventions.
In order to receive full credit for this assignment, you must fully complete the attached worksheet and upload it to
Blackboard during week 2 of the quarter. Failure to complete the worksheet or upload it by the due date will result in
a 1% deduction from your final course grade.
