The purposeful mission is a result of connecting one's own fate/dreams with that of something greater than one's self. The quest is in service of the power of the Queen-King, Sorcerer-Sorceress Guide, or the Lover. The questing energy uses the powers of focus, dedication, cleverness, perseverance, risk taking, intelligence, constraint, and inventing to bring the other energies back to the world or into the world. The questing energy stands for "doing the right thing," serving a greater good, and following the dreams and aspirations necessary to creating meaning in one's life and to give meaning to the lives of others. The quest follows and actualizes what has been envisioned by the other energies. This power enables the Dream Builder / World Builder / Vision Questor and clears the path for and defends the dream of personal and cultural self-actualization. Shadow Archetypal Images • Complete (mature/adult): Aggressive: The Detached Manipulator Passive: The Denying "Innocent" One • Incomplete (immature/child): Aggressive: The Know-It-All Trickster Passive: The "Dummy" The Transforming energy is the power of change and growth. It is the power of ascendancy and transcendence. It is the power that allows us to "go beyond" our apparent limits and to connect to the old as well as the undiscovered. It allows us to enter into the fabric of all that is and access the power of that synergy. The transforming energy accesses deep knowledge of the world and of the nature of people. It holds the essence of reality and what it means to be human. It is a profound ability to invent, create, and utilize insights into scientific technology, psychology, and sociology to have power for change and growth into the world. The transforming energy allows us to see things others don't, and to make connections others can't make. It is an access to a heightened power of observation and connection that creates "magic" and "genius" into the world. The power of transformation is accessed through many archetypal images but is essentially represented by the "ritual elder" (the shaman, the magician,) who guides the processes of transformation, both within us, and around us into the world. Everyday examples of this energy can be seen the persons of doctors, teachers, technicians, inventors, and scientists to name a few. It is not so much the pure "science" that these people can create or access, but the ancient process that underlies the discovery of such "science" that connects our modern "elders" with shamans or medicine men of "primitive " cultures, and the wizards and conjurers, witches and warlocks of ancient lore. It is a process that involves ritual, initiation, trial, test, quest, mentoring (master-apprentice relationship), guiding, teaching and above all, curiosity. The Ritual Elder opens the pathway to the connection between the sacred and the profane, the human and the divine, the body and soul, the worldly and the spiritual. She opens the door to other worlds. The transforming energy takes two basic paths: The acquisition and holding of "sacred" knowledge; and, the ability to use that knowledge as a "technology" for bringing meaning to the life of the individual and of all others, and to make the energies of Generation, Questing, and Love actual in the world. Some Further Examples of the Transforming Energy Demonstrating a Strong Influence From the Female Energy Staying nonactive • withdrawing from involvement • allowing events to proceed without intervention • being receptive to influence • becoming calm • being passive • waiting patiently Accessing the unconscious • using your intuition • seeking guidance from within • trusting your inner voice • opening to dreams and the imagination • being aware of a larger reality Seeing the potential • understanding the possibilities • opening to what could be • seeing your hidden talents • allowing development • letting what is there flower Sensing the mystery • looking beyond the obvious • approaching a closed off area • opening to the unknown • remembering something important • sensing the secret and hidden • seeking what is concealed • acknowledging the Shadow Magician • General o Has a special knowledge or how to transform and self-actualize AND the “technology” - skills and strategies to make it happen for him / her self and others. o A Guide: Guides Others to their fullness o Also a deflator of over-inflated egos o Teaches others how to access the other energies (King, Warrior, Lover) and to integrate them into a whole (individuated / integrated) self. For Jung, self is not ego. Self is more in the Buddhist concept of Emptiness - empty of a separate self and in our “selves” are all other things. Ego is our personal consciousness. • Shadow Energies o Detached Manipulator Misguides others energy from their fullness and uses their energy in order to meet the manipulator’s needs. Stands back and cynically “pulls the strings". o ”Denying “Innocent One” o Obstructs o Transfers guilt, responsibility o Changes the focus / subject Precocious Child: the Sorcerer's Apprentice General Has a special knowledge that can help himself, herself, and others to begin the process of transforming into adulthood, but does not have the mastery of the “technology” to do it. the “technology” can be seen as emotional intelligence tied, as well, into the Warrior energy. Jerry’s special knowledge in The Chocolate War is the idea that to become and adult and self-actualized one must “Disturb the Universe. ” At the end of The Chocolate War (Chapter 38, pg. 187) Jerry arrives at a new special knowledge - “They” don’t want you to disturb the universe, and if you do, they will kill you.” This new knowledge provides the key back to the mature Warrior energy, so that Jerry will be able to be a smarter “Questor” and this time know the enemy and know how to win. It employs the primal energies of Passion, Vividness, and Aliveness to guide the individual and humankind to engage their senses to sensually connect with creation, and their sensitivity to open the gates of understanding, empathy, and compassion for all living and non-living things. The Connecting Energy acts as the bond that unites all the energies (Generating, Questing, Transforming, and Connecting) together into a synergistic powerful force that draws the individual and humankind into a meaningful union. It brings The Lover to bear in all energies, thus providing an influence away from the shadow energies and a light toward connecting to something beyond the self. In a reciprocal manner, the Connecting Energy needs the power of the Generating, Transforming, Questing Energies to keep it grounded and attached to the real world and to prevent the Lover energy from drawing the individual and humankind into a dreamfantasy world of inaction, disconnection to the mortality and perfect imperfection of being human. They keep the experience of being alive a sensual, passionate, engaged, human experience. The Lover needs the other archetypes for boundaries, decisiveness, and healthy reflection so a person doesn't over identify - become narcissistic. Keeps the masculine energies humane, loving, and related to one another and to real life situations. It keeps the Queen-King, Warrior, Magician from being sadistic, exploitive, cruel, or generally under the influence of the shadow. The mysticism movement in these religions has brought some change. The Lover creates the sacramental view of the universe as God in us Is it not through the woman (Feminine) that God enters us and the world? Hinduism is not moralistic or ethical in the Western sense, thus the sensual is part of the religion / cultural mores Oneness with all things (Brahman) Oneness with God (Atman) Respect for the sensual - celebration and joy God as exotic and sensual Shadow Energies Addicted Lover Does not wish to put any limits on sensual and sexual experience of this vast world, a world that holds the promise of unending pleasures Rejection of Boundaries Does not wish to put any limits on sensual and sexual experience of this vast world, a world that holds the promise of unending pleasures There are no boundaries and the Addicted Lover wants no limits or limitations Desire to touch what it is forbidden to touch or enter - the "Mother / Feminine Unconscious." Don Juan Syndrome Looks for the ultimate "experience" and when faced with the humanness of others is disillusioned and moves on. Inner self is not yet solidified and thus looking for self on the outside and in others Sees the world in its fragments and not its whole - moves from fragment to fragment lost in each and never seeing the underlying unity. Lives FOR the moment, not IN the moment Prone to idolatry and obsessive worship of parts and no understanding of the whole. Trapped in the Feminine Power of the Collective Unconscious - Mother Issues, struggling to get out Needs to detach from and contain the chaotic power of the "feminine" unconscious.
