Verbs
Infinitive: original form of the verb – the verb BEFORE any changes
are made
Examples: to speak…parler
To play…jouer
To listen…écouter
Conjugate: to change the infinitive to its various forms
Example: I speak, You speak, He speaks, We speak, They speak
Je parle, Tu parles, Il parle, Nous parlons, Ils parlent
To conjugate “er” verbs:
1. Drop “er
2. Add subject in front of verb
3. Attach correct ending to verb

Questions in French:
One way to form a question in French is by placing:
Est-ce que or Est-ce qu’
in front of a statement.
Examples:
Tu fermes la porte.
Est-ce que tu fermes la porte?
Il parle français.
Est-ce qu’il parle français?
Negative sentences in French:
To express “not” in French, use NE or N’ before the conjugated
verb and PAS after the conjugated verb.
Examples:
Je joue au football.
Je ne joue pas au football.
Elles aiment parler.
Elles n’aiment pas parler.
