WELCOME TO PARIS
The three LGBT Badminton clubs of Paris – Acrobad, Goodminton and
Sitébad – are happy and proud to welcome you to their European
tournament, ParisBad 2013.
As always, we have been trying hard to offer you a good quality and
friendly event.
For the first time in its history, ParisBad tournament will take place in
the Halle Carpentier, the largest sports hall in Paris.
It is also with great pleasure that we will welcome you at the elegant
town hall of the 4th arrondissement of Paris. Could we have found a
better place to celebrate the same sex marriage bill voted and
promulgated this very year? It was about time!
The Paris tournament also includes a festive interlude with its Party in
one of the most famous and shady places of Paris nightlife and its
brunch followed by an afternoon in Bercy Park or at the new Joséphine
Baker swimming pool.
With 275 competitors, the 2013 event already looks great!

Be careful! There are many players so please be on time (that means that you
arrive at the beginning of registration and not at the end!), otherwise your
participation may be cancelled for the day without reimbursement.
A little bit of history and geography
Built in 1960, the Halle Georges Carpentier, located inside the largest
sports complex of Paris, is a multipurpose sports hall with 4800 seats.
Numerous important French sporting events have taken place here, such
as the World Fencing Championships, the Table Tennis World Cup or the
Badminton Open.
The 13th arrondissement is the historical Chinatown of Paris. Why not
take advantage of this to discover the rainbow-coloured Chinese shops
and do not miss the nationwide famous Frères Tang (the main shop is at
48 avenue d’Ivry).
RULES
You must be at the sports hall on time (see REGISTRATION), at least out
of respect and courtesy for the other players.
Otherwise you might face sanctions, namely be stricken off for the day.
Our partner Plusdebad will arrange a stand for sports equipment and
string repair.

Have a good match!
Shuttlecocks are provided. Categories A and B+ play with feather
shuttlecocks but no shuttlecocks are provided for warm-up. Other
categories play with plastic shuttlecocks.
What is unheard of in any LGBT tournament is that all matches in the
first round will be played in two sets with no setting (up to 21). In the
final round, matches will be played best out of three with setting. Since
there are many players and we are on a tight schedule we would ask
you to be disciplined concerning the timing. If you take too long for the
first round matches it will, unfortunately, be impossible to guarantee
that all players get through to the second round.
Warm-up time is 3 minutes maximum before each match. If you show
up late for a match, you will be stricken off for the match. As soon as
the match or pool matches are finished, the players must bring the
scoring sheet to the scoring table as soon as possible according to
guidelines given by the organisation team.
Within each pool, a person will be chosen. This person will be in charge
of the pool management and the only one that will deal with the
organisation team.
A bottle of water is provided at registration and lunch during lunch time.
A café will also be available during the day.
It is strictly forbidden to eat inside the sports hall except in the dining
room. Only bottles of water are allowed on the courts. You are asked to
respect this rule and keep the place clean. Any damage done to the
sports hall and the equipment may lead to legal proceedings by the local
authorities. The organisation team accepts no responsibility in case of
accident, injuries, loss, theft or any other kind of harm. It is up to each
competitor to take out his/her own insurance.

garage, deep house, hip hop, electro et other types of music for the
dance-floor. That is why we are counting on you for setting the place on
fire and for bringing your friends.

co-operative Sous Le Short des Filles (Under Girls’ Shorts) are also

A little bit of history and geography
Although its spirit is no longer as underground and alternative as it used
to be, Scène Bastille is still a lively place of Parisian nightlife. Bobos
(French hipsters) opt for the surrounding areas, especially the area
between the underground stations of Voltaire, Ledru-Rollin and Nation,
where there are many trendy restaurants, bistros, wine bars with
refurbished old-fashioned counters. Perfect for having dinner before the
party!
The Scène Bastille is still a great alternative party place. Apart from its
quality early concerts, Scène Bastille remains a hip and friendly
nightclub and offers the shady scene enjoyable night events such as the
unambiguous Code 69 Party and for a short while the Grand Bal du Fuck
(Great Fuck Ball), a party organised by the Ginettes armées since the
only lesbian and mixed bar-club of Paris, the Troisième lieu, closed
down.

The chic and trendy Joséphine Baker swimming pool, moored at Quai
François Mauriac, just below the National Library, is the only swimming
pool built on the Seine River! It is a designer, contemporary place with a
main pool of 25 m x 10 m divided into 4 lanes and two solaria, one on
the roof, 590 m² with a teak-covered terrace looking down on the Seine
and a breath-taking view, and one on the embankment level, 500 m²
with tables and sunshades.
Entrance price (Summer price!): € 5 for the first two hours and € 2.60
per extra hour.
The more the merrier! Join us even if you do not have lunch with us! It
will do you good to sober up…
A little bit of history and geography
The development of the long neglected Bercy area and its surroundings has been
spectacular these past 20 years. The little lungs of the capital, the diversified
Bercy park covers 14 hectares: with popular meadows, large shaded lawns at the
park Isaac Rabin covered with flowers and species planted on the remains of
former vineyards of Paris. To the West stand the Ministry of Economy and
Finance, a huge ship overhanging the Seine with moats and walls, a symbol of
the kingly power of the Ministry, and the POPB, one of the main concert halls of
Paris. To the East, there is the Cour Saint-Emilion, a pastoral place with stoned
walls, vaults and paving stones, a testimony of a successful redevelopment of the
former wine and spirit shops of Paris that have been preserved but now intended
for restaurants and stores. To the south, there is the Seine River. If you walk
across the Simone de Beauvoir bridge, made of teak with undulating shapes, you
reach the four towers of the François Mitterrand National Library, symbol of a
cultural and intellectual world opened to the outside one. The left bank of the
river is full of barges and terraces, each one as bucolic as the other, with their
artificial sandy beaches covered with deckchairs, sunshades, light-coloured large
wooden tables. There are also the Joséphine Baker swimming pool and the
mythical Batofar, the temple of new sounds and remnant of the underground past
of the area.
VELIB
Vélib’ is a self-service bike-rental system which is easy to use and
available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. It is an alternative,
economical and ecological way to get to one place from another and that
enables you to enjoy and discover Paris and its monuments at any time
of day and night.
How to use it?
If you want to rent a bike, go to the terminal, access the menu and
choose one of the proposed bikes on the screen.
Once you have finished with the bike, lock it onto a free lock-post at any
Vélib’ station.
Wait a minute until you hear a sound signal or see a green light
confirming that the bike has been correctly returned. If you have any
doubt on the return of the bike, you can go and check on the terminal. If
your bike has been correctly locked, you will be able to print a return
receipt. Otherwise, the following message appears: « vous avez un vélo
encours de location » (bike rent in progress).

Besides the yearly subscription, there are two fixed prices:
Ticket 1 jour (24-hour ticket): € 1.70, this ticket allows you to use the
system for 24 hours. Each time you take a bike from a post, the first

Ticket 7 jours (7-day ticket): € 8, this ticket allows you to use the
system for one week. Each time you take a bike from a post, the first 30
minutes are free of charge.
