Health and Wellness will be promoted the entire month of March. There

Discussion & Book Signing
The recently published Demon Pirate of Carolina by local author Faith Pearson
and illustrator Choci Gray tells the story of Black Beard the pirate and his
rampage along the coast of the Carolinas. There will be a book signing on
Saturday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public
Library. This event will include a discussion led by North Carolina
Museum of History Curator Earl Ijames. Both the author and illustrator
will lead a pirate-themed storytime at 3 p.m. in the Children’s Theater. For

Take your Child to the Library Day
Saturday, February 6 is Take Your Child to the Library Day. We encourage
all families to stop by a Library near you and share a story or two. Family
Story Time is offered every Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Children’s Theater of

Quiz Bowl 2016
Support the area’s brightest high school scholars at the annual fast-paced
Neuse Regional Library Quiz Bowl on Saturday, February 20 at 1 p.m. at
the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library. The competition is sponsored
by Tands, Inc./Bojangles, the Kinston Free Press, and the Kinston-Lenoir

Faces of Love Concert with Keisha Parks
The Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library will be extending the romantic
mood of Valentine’s day for a few more days when it welcomes back Keisha
Parks, former Head of the Children’s Department, to sing celebrated love
songs. The Faces of Love concert will include tunes made popular by Ella
Fitzgerald, Van Morrison, Kari Jobe, and other romance-inspiring artists.
The concert will be Sunday, February 21 from 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. This

Coloring Club for the Fully-Grown
Do you lead a busy life and need a break? Come calm down and color with
us for a couple of hours. Adult coloring books have become quite trendy, and
we want you to get in on the therapeutic fun. We’ll have crayons, colored
pencils, and coloring pages waiting for anyone 18 and up on Saturday,
February 27 at 3 p.m. at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library. For

He’ll Do It For You
Shillena Parks will share her gift of song with an afternoon of gospel at the La
Grange Public Library on Saturday, February 6 at 3 p.m. Drawing from
her many experiences, Parks has used gospel music to soothe, comfort,
inspire, and uplift from her small town upbringing in La Grange to the stage
while sharing the message in Germany. Join Shillena Parks in her afternoon
program to celebrate Black History Month and the power of gospel in He’ll

Freedom Coming, Freedom For All Panel Exhibit
Freedom Coming, Freedom For All is a panel exhibit celebrating the 150th
anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. The exhibit focuses on what
North Carolina looked like before the Civil War. It will cover events leading
up to President Abraham Lincoln’s issuance of the Preliminary Emancipation
Proclamation, the final Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment.
The exhibit will be available during the entire month of February and is on
loan from the North Carolina History Museum. For more information, please

Princess Party
Calling all princesses! Meet us in the Schechter Auditorium on Saturday,
February 13 at 3 p.m. for an afternoon of royal fun. We will share stories,
make crowns and magic wands, and have a grand afternoon. Everyone is

Booktalking
Join us for Booktalking on Thursday, February 18 at 7 p.m. in the Brody
Conference Room of the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library as we
discuss H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald. Join Macdonald on her journey
from crippling grief over the loss of her father to something resembling grace
while training a deadly bird of prey-the notoriously prickly, and murderous,

Love Yourself, Eat Heart Healthy!
We all love to eat and making smart food choices is important to good health!
Put on your chef hat and head to the Greene County Public Library on
Saturday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. to test your culinary skills. During this
program children will learn about healthy eating including good hand
washing skills, healthy food choices, and the benefits of eating right! We will

Local gospel greats will share the stage on Thursday, February 25 at 7
p.m. at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library to present a concert
to highlight the prolific impact gospel music has had on American music.
This concert will celebrate gospel’s deep, rich roots. This program is

Black History Series: Reclaiming Our Black Youth
As part of the Black History Series, Reclaiming Our Youth will explore
current events including stigmas, image, police, and civil rights. This
town hall forum will be held on Saturday, February 27 at 12 p.m. at the
Kinston-Lenoir Count Public Library. We will also discuss the history
behind the unrest in cities like Ferguson, New York City, and Charleston.
Part I of this program will be a town hall style discussion to bring to light
issues in our community. Part II of this program will be devoted to our
youth. The men will mentor the middle and high school boys, and the
women will mentor the middle and high school girls. At the end, we will
reconvene to take a pledge to Reclaim Our Youth. For more information,

Simple’s Blues featuring Thomasi McDonald
On Sunday, February 28 at 3 p.m. at the Kinston-Lenoir County Public
Library, acclaimed actor and journalist Thomasi McDonald will become
Jesse B. Simple, a character who focuses on topics like race, love and
politics to create a portrait of what Hughes called the “everyman.” A
graduate of North Carolina Central University where he studied theatre,
performance art, and journalism, McDonald has appeared in numerous
productions including August Wilson’s Fences and Gem of the Ocean. This
