Park Street, Suite 7355 ((608) 262-2152) ♢ Office hours : Monday and Wednesday 10:00 am –11:00 am Text: The UW Madison First Semester Calculus Text Class Website : www.math.wisc.edu/˜ chandara In this class we will study some basic skills in calculus. The best way to learn mathematics is to DO it . That means carefully studying the material covered in lecture notes; studying the solved problems in the book; diligently doing all the homework problems, and more if time permits, showing all work and steps as shown in the textbook; and reviewing the material regularly. It will save you a lot of time if you study the textbook before you start doing your homework. You will understand mathematics a lot better if you have paper and pencil at hand and keep the pencil moving while studying mathematics! It is in your interest to keep up with the pace of the class and not fall behind. You are required to do several of the homework problems on Moodle. Your grade will be based on two midterm exams, each worth 100 points, and a final exam worth 160 points. Homework will be collected just about every week for grading. The written homework and the homework done on Moodle will be worth an additional 20 points each. Thus your grade will be out of a total of 400 points. Calculators will neither be needed nor allowed on the exams. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions at chandara@math.wisc.edu. I wish that all of you enjoy this class!
