The Order of Service which we will be following this morning is printed in this
worship folder, and the appointed Scripture readings for today may be found
on the back cover. Feel free to ask a member of Bethel who may be sitting
near you for help if anything appears unclear.
Welcome to Bethel in the name of our crucified, risen, and ascended Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. We’re glad that you’ve joined us for worship! May
this time together, gathered around God’s Word, be a blessing to all. As you
hear of and receive God’s forgiveness in Christ, and return your thanksgiving
and praise, it is our prayer that you will be strengthened in your faith and your
life as a child of God.
As We Gather
Today is the Feast of All Saints. This is an occasion to
remember with thanksgiving to God all people
redeemed by Jesus throughout the ages, and
especially our own loved ones who have died in the
Lord. The love of God is astonishing. The Lord takes
pleasure in His people; He adorns the humble with
salvation. God even calls us His own dear children! He
calls us from every nation, tribe, people-group, and language. He calls us—
poor sinners—the poor in spirit who hunger for righteousness. We, though
burdened by our sins, trust in Jesus, our Savior, who has given all for us to live
in communion with God. Today is a day of rejoicing not that we or our
departed loved ones have been such great saints, but that our Savior has
graciously numbered us along with all His saints as His own beloved people.
For all this we sing to the Lord a new song of thanksgiving and praise!

CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION
1 John 3:1
P:
Father of all sinners and saints,
C:
we, who by Baptism and faith in Jesus, are at the same time
sinners and saints. We confess to You that we have been born
turned away from You and naturally turn inward upon
ourselves. The essence of our sinfulness is our turning away
1
P:
C:
from God and disobedience to His Law. But Jesus—through His
incarnation, life, death, and resurrection—has stood in the
place of us sinners so that through Him we have become saints,
beloved sons and daughters of God. So, Father, please forgive
us for all the ways we still fail to live into our sainthood. Turn
our hearts toward You. Strengthen our weakness with the
power of Your love. In Jesus’ name.
People loved by God, see what kind of love the Father has given
to us, that we should be called children of God, and so we are.
While at the same time sinners and saints, we are all the time
the beloved sons and daughters of God. Therefore, as a called
and ordained servant of Christ Jesus, and by His authority, I
forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the †
Son and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

PROPER PREFACE
P:
It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and
in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father,
everlasting God. In the communion of all Your saints gathered
into the one Body of Your Son, You have surrounded us with so
great a cloud of witnesses that we, encouraged by their faith and
strengthened by their fellowship, may run with perseverance the
race that is set before us and, together with them, receive the
crown of glory that does not fade away. Therefore with angels
and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and
magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at this congregation in the belief that, as
He says, our Lord gives into our mouths not only bread and wine, but His
very Body and Blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to
strengthen our union with Him and with one another. Our Lord invites to
His table those who trust His words, repent of all sin and who desire to
forgive and love as He forgives and loves us. In order to be faithful to our
Lord’s command that those who commune first examine themselves according to the Word of
God (I Corinthians 11:27-30), and because participation in Holy Communion demonstrates
agreement with the faith and teachings of this congregation (I Corinthians 10:16-18), we ask
that those who commune be confirmed members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod
(LCMS) congregations. Please speak with the Pastor if you have any questions.
For those unable to drink wine, white grape juice can be found in
the center of each individual cup tray.
Please Note: If you, or someone in your family, would like to receive communion where you
are seated, please let Pastor or one of the ushers know.
