BISC300 --- INTRODUCTION TO MICROBIOLOGY
Spring 2011---LABORATORY SYLLABUS
• Eye protection is required in the laboratory. Purchase splash goggles or safety
glasses prior to the first lab.
• Bring marking pens to each lab meeting.
• Read lab exercises before coming to lab.
• Skills and techniques learned in this course are cumulative. It is expected that
you will master and use them repetitively.
• Use this syllabus each week to study and plan your work prior to lab. Written
work flow charts will be required starting Lab 2. A sample flow chart is
provided here as an example covering a lab with multiple exercises on a single
day.
• General information on the lab, including safety regulations and grading
procedure is contained at the front of the lab manual. Read very carefully.
• Students occasionally have legitimate reasons to miss lab on a given week,
usually because of illness. Since all sections are filled this semester, it is
essential that students who must miss a lab follow the procedures for
scheduling a makeup lab. Permission to take a makeup lab may be denied if the
reason is not an excused absence, as defined by the University.
