The focus of this workshop is to clarify the myriad of student record laws and confidentiality requirements that impact school operations. Public records laws, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), state student records laws and regulations guide schools on what information must be provided to parents. These laws also describe what information is confidential and when schools may disclose information to a third party without the consent of the parent or student. This session will also include tips for communicating with parents to keep parents informed while respecting other confidentiality obligations. The content features the most important developments from the previous 12 months in Massachusetts and across the nation. Andrea Bell is a Partner at Stoneman, Chandler & Miller LLP.
