FINE MOTOR
4 yr old: string small beads, draw combinations of simple shapes, draw a person with 4
parts and recognizable objects, practices an activity to gain mastery, using pincher grip
when drawing or writing, uses tweezers to pick up small items, beginning to use scissors,
pours liquids into cup without spilling, trace object or stencil
GROSS MOTOR
Running, jumping, climbing, hopping, agility, interest in movement, creative dancing,
balancing, body control
SELF-HELP
Dressing, pouring, packing/unpacking, putting things away, keeping track of things,
clean-up, use of bathroom, personal hygiene, finds belongings, washing hands, meal &
snack times, helpful, mat jobs
COGNITIVE
Colors, opposites, memory matching, shapes, recognition of numbers & letters, age,
days, months, counting, patterns, classification (same /different, some/all), puzzles,
knows address and phone (4 yr olds) recognition of letters in name and attempts to write
them
CREATIVE PLAY
Creative, own ideas, inventive, elaborate drawings, stages of drawings (scribbles, shapes,
designs, pictures), tracing, use of different media and materials, pretend play
(imagination)
