vWorkspace - Moka5 Suite 3.17 Release Notes We're happy to announce the following enhancements in this release. - Configure number of CPU cores used in a LivePC - Display a custom EULA when starting Moka5 Player - Run host scripts on Mac or Windows host computers - Create Domain Join Packets using an API - Identify the MAC address of host computers from the Management Server Configure number of CPU cores used in a LivePC Provides end users the control to assign additional host CPU resources to improve LivePC performance. Display a custom EULA when starting vWorkspace Moka5 Suite Player For BYO initiatives, administrators can present a custom End User License Agreement to users, and track user acceptance from the Management Server. Run host scripts on Mac or Windows host computers This mechanism adds flexibility for IT administrators to collect important host attributes and to perform critical checks and actions at vWorkspace - Moka5 SuitePlayer start time, before users gain access to LivePC images. Results can be reported back to the Management Server. Create Domain Join Packets using an API Provides an advanced method for administrators to implement the Domain Join Packet creation process, without the need to use vWorkspace - Moka5 Suite Creator. This can be used by enterprises to: l l Automate the creation of packets at user-provisioning time, integrated with an external provisioning workflow Manually recreate a packet for a specific user while preserving the same computer name Identify the MAC address of host computers from the Management Server Administrators can verify the host MAC address reported to the Management Server for security and auditing purposes. For more information Please refer to the Resolved Issues section to see what else was fixed in 3.17. IMPORTANT – Updated vWorkspace MokaFive Suite license is required after upgrade to 3.17 Summary We’ve made an update to our licensing mechanism that requires all existing deployments to obtain an updated license (from vWorkspace - MokaFive Suite) after upgrading to 3.17. l No special action is required during a NEW installation of vWorkspace - MokaFive Suite 3.17 Management Server. l If your existing Management Server can access the Internet directly, no further action is required. The updated license will be applied automatically during l server upgrade. If your existing Management Server cannot access the Internet directly (or sits behind a proxy), then action is required. Please follow the instructions below. How to apply the updated license If your existing Management Server cannot access the Internet directly (or sits behind a proxy), please follow the instructions in the LivePC Administrator Guide to save a .M5R file from your server and retrieve a .M5L file from Moka5. You do not need to input a new Customer ID and Deployment ID. These should already be pre-populated on your existing server. If you have any difficulty applying the updated license, please contact Quest Support for assistance. What happens if the updated license is not applied? If the updated license is not applied, you will notice several things after the 3.17 upgrade: l When logged in to the Management Console, a warning message will appear at the top header, indicating that you need to apply a new vWorkspace - MokaFive l l Suite license to the server. When logged in to the Management Console, you will be unable to upload a new Client Pack. When logged in to the End User Console, you will be unable to download the Moka5 Player Installer. l Behind the scenes, the Player Auto-update process will be blocked. All of these items will be resolved when you apply the updated Moka5 license to your Management Server. vWorkspace - Moka5 Suite System Requirements/Supported Platforms: 3.17 System Requirements - Client (Player and Creator) - Management Server and Image Store (all-in-one) - Management Server (standalone) - Desktop or Mobile Application Gateway Server - Image Store Server Supported Platforms - Client (Player and Creator) - Server Database Requirements System Requirements Client (Player and Creator): Below are the minimum and recommended system requirements. Database requirements vWorkspace - Moka5 Suite Infrastructure requires the following to configure Microsoft SQL Server: l l l l l l Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or 2008 R2 SQL Server Authentication - Mixed-mode authentication enabled Database server hostname Port Database name (can be anything you choose; for example, m5esdb) Database user credentials (username, password). User should have schema change permissions. In addition, the database will probably be about 100 kbs per LivePC per user. Quarterly archiving of old log records from the database can help keep the size of the database quite small. You can use your shared Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 infrastructure to host the database. Most vWorkspace - Moka5 Suite deployments can be satisfied by the free Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition, which is limited to 10GB of database size and 1GB of RAM usage. The SQL Server 2008 R2 Express edition can be installed on the Management Server computer. IMPORTANT: vWorkspace - Moka5 Suite currently does not support named SQL Server instances (<Server Hostname><Named Instance>). Moka5 will only work with the default instance. Check with your database administrator if you are not sure about the database server configuration. The LivePC will run on the primary display only. The second display can be used for the host OS, but not to extend the LivePC desktop. 23746 Note: A manual step is required after upgrading the host OS from Windows 8 to 8.1. The end user will be prompted to manually uninstall VMware Player No network in LivePC from Control Panel > Programs and Features. Upon after host upgrade restart of Moka5 Player, VMware Player will be reinfrom Windows 8 to stalled automatically via the Moka5 autoupdate. Windows 8.1 (This step is required due to the Windows upgrade corrupting the VMware Player virtual network services.) 23215 Moka5 does not yet support USB 3.0 for Windows 7 images because Windows 7 does not include native driver support for USB 3.0. However, you can still use USB 2.0 devices with USB 3.0 ports and USB 3.0 devices with USB 2.0 ports. In both cases, the devices will operate at USB 2.0 speeds. However, the other LivePC tiles are not disabled and clicking Play will bring up the "Starting" message, but the LivePC doesn't start. 20803 For USB Player, preparing for bulk duplication breaks LivePC file association on the host. User has Desktop Player installed on host, then runs USB Player on which he does Prepare for duplication. Prepare for duplication breaks system association with LivePC shortcut file (*.lpc -> Properties -> Opens with: Unknown application) thus LivePC shortcuts on user desktop transform into the default icon, though Desktop Player components are still associated. 20781 On Mac Lion, with Player-in-the-tray enabled, may get warning message on reboot. When rebooting Mac Lion with Player-in-the-tray enabled, users may get the Player login screen and a warning that Player is already running. 20741 On BareMetal with nVidia, external monitor does not activate on lid close. Put it on dock with external monitor and power on external display works as single one. On lid open, external monitor displays secondary BareMetal desktop, and embedded display is black. 20687 On BareMetal, nVidia machines going to extended from cloned mode displayed the Player UI. On BareMetal with external display in cloned mode, switch to extend. BareMetal primary display showed secondary LivePC desktop, projector showed primary BM desktop without Player window (Browser icon was there). On display unplug BareMetal correctly goes back to single display mode. 20686 On BareMetal, nVidia machines may not detect an external monitor plugged in while sleeping. BareMetal machine non-docked, LivePC running, put host to sleep by lid close. Plug in an external monitor, and open lid - LivePC awakes but cannot recognize external monitor plugged. 20656 On BareMetal, changing display mode when on Player UI may cause external display to show the secondary LivePC screen. When a LivePC is active, using Win+P on the Player UI to switch from clone to extended mode may cause external display to show the secondary LivePC screen. 20585 On BareMetal, closing laptop lid may cause external display to lose sync. On older Intel chipsets, certain operations involving external monitors cause the machine to drive the external display in a way that causes it to lose sync, resulting in a "wobbly" or "wavy" image. 20531 On Mac, certain view settings reset upon LivePC restart. On Mac hosts, changing to full screen, and setting the title bar to “automatically show and hide”, will not persist across restarts of the LivePC. 20503 On BareMetal, plugging or unplugging DVI-to-DisplayPort adapter may not be BareMetal in this case continues to behave in extended mode as if external monitor was still in use. detected. 20450 No sound controls in BareMetal Fearless Browser. Host sound buttons or hot keys do not affect audio from Fearless Browser. 20345 Creator testmode does not accept altered machine name patterns When using testmode with Creator, changing the pattern will result in the testmode session not joining the domain, with only local users operable. 20342 Importing a VM image If a VM image has 2 disks, the VM may not boot. with two disks may The workaround is to modify the boot sequence in result in a VM that VM BIOS, to correctly define the boot disk. doesn’t boot. 20272 Importing a VM image can result in extraneous warning messages. Depending on the devices connected to a VM when it was created, importing that VM and running it on Player may cause Windows to issue extraneous warning messages. This is because the VM expects to find devices that are not there. This can be worked around by editing the VMX file before importing to remove the offending lines. 20199 On Mac hosts, suspending the LivePC within a minute of resuming may not work On Mac hosts, resuming a suspended LivePC and then suspending again too soon (within about a minute) may result in the suspend dialog to appear then disappear without the LivePC suspending. The workaround is to wait about 30 seconds and try again. 20087 For BareMetal on some Intel “SandyBridge” machines, hang when going off dock. On some “SandyBridge” BareMetal machines, when on dock with closed lid and external monitor plugged in, on detaching laptop from dock (lid is still closed) it sleeps. On opening lid, the display is blacked, with no keyboard response. 20009 Installing Player or Creator on a Vista host will fail unless UAC is disabled Vista has a User Account Control feature which will cause Player or Creator installation to fail. The workaround is to disable UAC before installation. After installation, UAC can be re-enabled without problem. 19962 On BareMetal switch- Switching between 802.1x and non-authenticated ing between 802.1x wired connections can take up to 150 seconds. and non-authenticated wired connections takes a long time 19926 Using USB Player with RSA SecurID can cause Player error. When enabling RSA SecurID with USB Players, attempting to login can cause Player to fail with an error. 19711 On some BareMetal machines, after idling, performance may be poor for several seconds after new activity. Some machines will reduce the clock speed when idle to reduce power consumption. On a subset of these machines, the clock speed takes several seconds to resume to normal after new activity. 19108 Unable to login to LivePC for first use on BareMetal host when behind captive portal. If a user downloads a LivePC on a BareMetal host and does not start the LivePC; but, later tries to start while behind a captive portal, the user will not be able to login to the LivePC. Workaround: if BareMetal browser is enabled, launch browser and establish connectivity first, then start LivePC; otherwise, start LivePC while on the corporate network. 19233 Player becomes offline after client update while using Cisco VPN on Mac 10.6 host After an auto-update, the Player will go offline (unable to reach the server) if running on a Mac (10.6) host with Cisco VPN connected on the host. Workaround: restart the VPN on the host. 18945 On Mac 10.6 host unable to restart VPN after Player was running If a user starts Cisco VPN on a Mac 10.6 host, starts Moka5 Player, then try to reconnect the Cisco VPN on the host, they may see an error message. Workaround is to either reboot your host or issue the following command in a terminal window: sudo SystemStarter restart CiscoVPN 18904 ThinkPad Trackpoint scrolling does not work within LivePC Trackpoint scrolling (ability to scroll a page by moving the trackpoint while holding the middle trackpad button) does not work on some Lenovo ThinkPads inside the LivePC. 18857 USB Player install fails when host has Norton Internet Security USB Player installation fails when host is running Norton Internet Security. A file called “TMP4352$.TMP” appears in the All Programs menu and in My Documents in XP-based LivePCs. Enabling WSE in an XP guest causes registry read errors. This in turn could may cause issues in other applications. Recommend turning WSE off in XP guests. 14111 Merged Environment does not work properly on Mac if Fusion is running. 13533 Server page stuck on Leaving a browser open on a page in the manlogon screen after agement console for an extended period of time long break. may cause the page to become stuck on the login page. Workaround: restart browser. 11507 Conflict between user If a LivePC has the “Retain user installed applicand administrator ations” policy enabled, the application may not funcupdates tion if the administrator updates the application after the user does this. Workaround: If this happens, the user must “Rejuvenate Now” to get back to a clean state. As a best practice, Moka5 recommends disabling auto-update for programs included in the base image. 11155 Set number of failed USB drives that have been formatted for Moka5 use login attempts before do not enforce the policy to lock the Player after x locking Playnumber of failed login attempts. er/Creator policy does not work when running from USB that has been formatted for Moka5 use. 11122 “Track files copied The “Track files copied from guest to host” policy from guest to host” does not work when running a Portable Player policy does not work (USB) on a Mac host. on Portable Player on Mac 11073 Unrevoke requires an When unrevoking a previously revoked LivePC, the extra restart to take user will need to start the Player twice before being effect able to use the LivePC. 10667 There is no device entry on Server UI, after launching the Player for first time Currently, devices appear on Console only after user subscribes to a LivePC. When a Player starts for the first time, the device is registered with the server. But the UI does not present registered devices that do not have subscribed LivePCs. 10627 Server is not install- If the server installation location is changed from the If Fusion is already running on a Mac (i.e. not started by Moka5), and the user starts a LivePC in Unity mode, the applications will appear on the dock; but, will not be usable. Further, an uninstallation may cause corruption of the OS. 10576 Editing name of a local user or group is not supported The management console does not provide a user interface to update a local user or group. The exception to this is users’ passwords, which may be reset. 10406 Member OUs are not targeted When targeting AD groups that contain Organizational Units, members of the OU that are not direct members of the AD group will not be targeted. Workaround: The OU can be directly targeted in a separate targeting. All members of the OU will then be targeted. 10402 LivePC image name with 128 characters or longer not downloadable If a LivePC image is published with a 128-character or longer name, the publishing occurs successfully; however the image is not downloadable to any Player or Creator. Workaround: limit the LivePC name to be fewer than 128 characters.
