Students may create a video that lasts no longer than three
minutes that inspires and reminds viewers why they should
defend our Founding Documents. Please use the theme
for this year, “Keepers of the Constitution: Service and
Freedom.” Students can win a $5,000, $2,500, or $1,000
scholarship for college.
Students who make a difference by volunteering in the
community can will $1,000 and a trip to Washington D.C.
Students in grades 5-12 may apply if they have conducted
a service activity within the last year. Applications are
available online or by calling 1.877.525.8491. After you
complete the application, submit it to the Head Of Schools
by November 4.
ADOPT A VETERAN ESSAY COMPETITION

Find a military veteran that you do not already know and
get to know them over the course of several meetings. Then,
write a 1,500 word essay about your experience. You must
submit your entry electronically either through their website
or email it to scholarshipJFI@cox.net.

THE CHRISTOPHER REEVE AWARD
The foundation will accept nominations from September
15-December 1, 2014.

The Christopher Reeve Award® is awarded to those high
school students who make a difference in their communities
and exhibit exemplary lives of service and compassion.
The 2010 award winner will receive a $1,000 stipend towards
higher education and recognition on our site and amidst
the local community.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Program scholarship is an
achievement-based scholarship awarded to 250 high
school seniors each year. Fifty of these are four-year, $20,000
scholarships ($5,000 per year for four years), while 200 are
designated as four-year,$10,000 scholarships ($2,500 per
year for four years). The scholarships must be used at an
accredited U.S. college or university. Must have a 3.0 GPA
or better @ end of junior year.

The VFW’s “Voice of Democracy” Scholarship Contest is
an annual nationwide audio essay competition designed
to give high school students in grades 9, 10, 11 & 12 the
opportunity to voice their opinion on their responsibility to
our country. Former first place state Voice of Democracy
winners and high school students over the age of 19 are
not eligible. US Citizenship is not required, although students
must be permanent residents of the US. Award is $30,000
scholarship.

In a further effort to provide an outlet for teenagers to think
creatively about Alzheimer’s disease and to engage the
younger generation in this cause, AFA is pleased to offer
the AFA Teens Video Competition for teens ages 13-19. AFA
will award $500 to the grand-prize winner and $250 to the
first runner-up. Students must submit an autobiography
and create an artistic or documentary (non-fiction) video
of two minutes or less that conveys the following message:
“A moment in relation to Alzheimer’s disease when you
learned something about your understanding of the
disease, learned something about care giving, or decided
to become a community volunteer/activist.”

Students who would like to study engineering or engineering
technology may apply for the ASHRAE scholarship. Programs
must be recognized by ASHRAE, and students must be
enrolled full time. There is potential service to the HVAC&R
profession.
Students who are in grades 9-12 may submit an essay of
700-1,000 words that describe an act of political courage by
a U.S. elected official that occurred during or after 1956. The
official may be from local, state, or national level. The essays
must also have a minimum of five sources. The winner of the
contest will win $10,000 and invited to accept the award in
Boston. A second place winner will win $1,000, and up to
five finalists will win $500.
Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and/or a class ranking
of 30% or above.

The Annual Create-A- Greeting-Card $10,000 Scholarship
Contest is open to high school, college, and graduate
students.
Applicants are asked to design the front of a greeting card
that could be sold as an actual card in our line. Designs
may consist of original photographs, artwork, and/or
computer graphics. The student with the winning design
will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship and his or her design
will be made into a greeting card to be sold on our website.

There are two types of loan forgiveness programs for teachers:
Teacher Loan Forgiveness for Direct Subsidized Loans,
Direct Unsubsidized Loans, Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans,
and Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans Teacher Cancellation
for Federal Perkins Loans.

The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund (NRACRDF) is once
again sponsoring an essay contest celebrating the Second
Amendment as an integral part of the Constitution and
the Bill of Rights. The theme for the essay is “The Second
Amendment to the Constitution: Why it is important to
our nation.”
Essays will be judged in two categories:
• Senior (grades 9-12) and Junior (grades 8 and below) prizes,
$200 for third place prizes, and $100 for honorable mention.
• Essay contest winners will be selected and notified in
early 2015.

The Pennsylvania Engineering Foundation currently
administers the following engineering scholarships:
• (2) $2,000 Pennsylvania Engineering Foundation (PEF)
Grants: Undergraduate
Students can receive $10,000 in renewable scholarships, up
to $40,000 per student, by demonstrating leadership, drive,
integrity, and citizenship. Students must demonstrate financial
need, maintain above a 3.0 G.P.A., and receive a nomination
from a community member in a leadership role. Please visit

deadline is January 8, 2015.
• (2) $1,000 Professional Engineers in Private Practice Grants:
Undergraduate
• (2) $1,000 Harrisburg Chapter PSPE Grants: Undergraduate
Scholarships are one time only grants issued for freshmen
attending their first semester in the fall at an ABET
accredited engineering program in the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania.
• Student must be a Pennsylvania resident.
• Minimum SAT Math Score: 700

2014 WIMMER SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

Students who wish to attend Saint Vincent College and
maintain a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher may register to participate
in the 2014 Wimmer Scholarship Competition. The competition
will take place on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Seniors must
register by Friday, November 14, 2014, have applied to Saint
Vincent, and send in their official transcripts.
