Fifty of these are four-year, $20,000 scholarships ($5,000 per year for four years), while 200 are designated as four-year,$10,000 scholarships ($2,500 per year for four years). The scholarships must be used at an accredited U.S. college or university. Must have a 3.0 GPA or better @ end of junior year. VOICE OF DEMOCRACY Nov 12, 2012 www.vfw.org/index.cfm?f a=cmty.leveld&did=15 The VFW’s “Voice of Democracy” Scholarship Contest is an annual nationwide audio essay competition designed to give high school students in grades 9, 10, 11 & 12 the opportunity to voice their opinion on their responsibility to our country. Former first place state Voice of Democracy winners and high school students over the age of 19 are not eligible. US Citizenship is not required, although students must be permanent residents of the US. Award is $30,000 scholarship. AFA TEENS VIDEO COMPETITION December 1, 2014 www.afateens.org/competition_video.html In a further effort to provide an outlet for teenagers to think creatively about Alzheimer’s disease and to engage the younger generation in this cause, AFA is pleased to offer the AFA Teens Video Competition for teens ages 13-19. AFA will award $500 to the grand-prize winner and $250 to the first runner-up. KENNEDY PROFILE IN COURAGE ESSAY CONTEST Submissions accepted from Sept. 1, 2014 – Jan. 5, 2015 www.jfklibrary.org Students who would like to study engineering or engineering technology may apply for the ASHRAE scholarship. Programs must be recognized by ASHRAE, and students must be enrolled full time. There is potential service to the HVAC&R profession. Students who are in grades 9-12 may submit an essay of 700-1,000 words that describe an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official that occurred during or after 1956. The official may be from local, state, or national level. The essays must also have a minimum of five sources. The winner of the contest will win $10,000 and invited to accept the award in Boston. A second place winner will win $1,000, and up to five finalists will win $500. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and/or a class ranking of 30% or above. The student with the winning design will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship and his or her design will be made into a greeting card to be sold on our website. The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund (NRACRDF) is once again sponsoring an essay contest celebrating the Second Amendment as an integral part of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. The theme for the essay is “The Second Amendment to the Constitution: Why it is important to our nation.” Essays will be judged in two categories: • Senior (grades 9-12) and Junior (grades 8 and below) prizes, $200 for third place prizes, and $100 for honorable mention. • Essay contest winners will be selected and notified in early 2015.
