GENERAL SESSION AND OPENING KEYNOTE

All conference attendees are invited to a special General Session Friday evening.
The session will conclude with the Keynote address, presented by Ramsey Musallam.

OPENING KEYNOTE: Ramsey Musallam
The Best Time to Be a Teacher is Now
Whether it be the Common Core, Next Generation Science Standards or recent
Advanced Placement curricular modifications, your school, district or organization
is undoubtedly in the middle of a conversation about standards and assessment.
Although the last decade brought with it mixed emotions about accountability,
this keynote will argue that educators today are in a perfect position to make a real, organized, and dynamic
impact on student learning.
American Canyon
High School
Through a lens of pedagogy, Ramsey will demonstrate how meaningful learning is possible when educators
critically embrace standards, rather than reject them as factors that inhibit real learning. This keynote will
argue that today’s educator can both motivate, engage and inspire her students, while also delivering content
in meaningful and engaging ways. With new standards on the horizon, endless opportunities for professional
connection and growth, and a myriad of new tools at our disposal, the best time to be a teacher is now!
Ramsey Musallam is a chemistry teacher at Sacred Heart Cathedral,
and host of the Infinite Thinking Machine, an internet show dedicated
to innovation in education. Upon receiving his Doctorate in 2010,
Ramsey’s interests have shifted from Multimedia Learning, to an
emphasis on curiosity, using technology as a strategic classroom
partner. He recently spoke on this passion alongside Sir Ken
Robinson, Bill Gates and Geoffrey Canada on TED talks Education,
the first to be aired on TV.
Get there early, as space is limited.
All conference attendees are invited to our Closing Session Saturday afternoon.
Gather as a community to reflect your conference experience.

Changing the Conversation:
It’s Not About the Tech
In the world of education, more specifically the world in which our students
are growing up, technology is not only an option for learning and life; it is
imperative to live that life to its fullest. It will be our responsibility as educators to help this generation
make the “RIGHT” decisions about the technology they use, but use the technology in ways that are real,
impactful, global; honoring passion and amplifying individual and collective talent.
The R.I.G.H.T framework seeks to capture the essential qualities of knowledge required and perspective
for effective technology integration into teaching and learning while addressing the social and connected
nature of the changing landscape.
Angela will discuss how technologies (both analog and digital) need to be creatively repurposed by
educators in order to develop and provide experiences essential for success in the new millennium. She
will also offer examples of current research and practice as well as wider implications for education leaders,
teacher professional development and policy.
It’s not the technology —it’s how you USE it
At the forefront of New Literacy and Web 2.0 technologies is Angela Maiers,
inspiring others with her passionate pursuit of literacy, learning and
global communication. She is an award-winning educator, speaker,
consultant and professional trainer and has been impacting the
education field and business communities worldwide for more than 20
years with her energetic and inspirational messages.
Her most recent books are The Habitudes and The Passion Driven
Classroom. In addition to her own blog at www.angelamaiers.com,
she also contributes to Huffington Post, Social Media Explorer,
Ecology of Education and is a top contributor on Education Week’s
LeaderTalk. As the founder and President of Maiers Educational
Services, she is committed to helping schools and organizations achieve
learning and productivity goals through literacy and technology.

Why do you deserve a college acceptance? Why should you get

you? Every day people are asked to take a position and defend it.
One could “argue” that the better you are at arguing your case, the
farther you will get in life. Teach students how to make a claim,
support it with evidence, and address counter arguments. Move
beyond simply teaching the Standards, and use technology to
encourage students to broaden their perspectives, learn from each
