Mr Safeer Simultaneous Heat and Mass Transfer Simultaneous Heat and Mass transfer Laboratory (CHE 412L) The Simultaneous heat and mass transfer Laboratory houses several equipment for
educational and research applications. There are driers, Evaporators and cooling tower
in the laboratory. The students gain valuable insight into the subject of simultaneous
heat and mass transfer while experimenting with such units.

1. Bench top Cooling tower
This is a small scale cooling tower that reproduces all the processes found in an
industrial cooling tower. The unit incorporates a process cooling load, circulating pump,
packed column, water distribution system and a forced draught fan.

A bench top all glass construction unitsallow continues observation and measurement
of rapid drying process. In the process of Spray Drying, the liquid stream or feed is first
atomized using a suitable Atomizer and is then sprayed at a high speed over hot gases
present in the apparatus. Next the hot gases dry up the stream, which is then taken into
a Cyclone for separation of the particles produced.

The small scale tray drier dries solids by passing a stream of hot air over trays of wet
material, a method commonly used in industry. It is also applicable to food technology
education e.g., to design a fruit snack, similar to a fruit roll-up, using a fresh and in
research e.g., to determine
product specifications, such as thickness and water
content, as well as process and drier specifications.

The service unit is capable of housing one or two columns with rising or falling film
evaporation and controlled recirculation in either direction. High column capability allows
low temperature evaporation.
