April Updates
From
TAMMY GOODWIN
DIRECTOR OF RESIDENT SERVICES
People are the
Message from Management
heart of
Buchanan Lodge
At last Spring is upon us, ushered in by glorious sunshine
which I hope we will see lots of in April. If we must have
showers let them be accompanied by rainbows like that
Heaven sent halo of colour that graced our sky last month.
Many of our Residents, Staff and Visitors witnessed its
spectacular beauty.
Our Accreditation Survey has been pushed back to October giving us a few more
months to prepare. Look for our logo (above) you will be seeing it everywhere!
We are moving ahead with our plans to restructure the RN/LPN mix while
continuing to provide the best possible care. The changes will take effect June
1st. I regret to announce that Chaplain Laurel Lafaut will be leaving us at the end
of April and want to thank her for all she has given to Buchanan Lodge in her
time with us. And finally – on a high note….we weathered the flu season
exceptionally well because of the collective efforts of Staff and Visitors diligently
following the protocol. Thank-you to everyone you truly are the HEART of
Buchanan Lodge.
Appreciatively yours,
Tammy Goodwin, Director of Resident Services

April Devotional
Hope!
The women who buried Jesus on Friday returned to visit him early Sunday
morning. They brought spices and perfumes to anoint the body. What they
found is the substance of Easter hope: no stone in front of the grave, no body
within the grave. They found an angel, clothed in white, seated on the
stone. “He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where
the Lord lay” (Matthew 28:6).
When they did, they saw the first signs of the resurrection: a vacant slab,
an abandoned burial cloth, a folded shroud, and a beaming angel. And, could
we examine the empty grave with them, we’d find something else. Languishing
in the corner, in the dust, doomed to be sealed and buried forever…your stack
of I can’ts.
God buried your I can’ts in the grave of Christ. Every last one of
them. You say you can’t forgive someone? You can’t, but with Christ you
can. Can’t survive the struggle? You can’t, but with Christ you can. Can’t hang
on any longer? Turn to Christ for help. “God’s power is very great for us who
believe. That power is the same as the great strength God used to raise Christ
from the dead” (Ephesians 1:19-20). The same steely, burly force that raised
Christ from the dead will turn your “I can’ts” into “I cans”: “I can do all things
through Christ, because he gives me the strength” (Philippians 4:13).
With Christ you can face the struggles of Friday. Set your mind on the joy
that awaits you.
With Christ you can endure the silence of Saturday. Be patient. Christ will
come.
With Christ you can celebrate on Sunday. The same power that defeated
His death will give you life.
Have you asked for it? Have you asked God to help you? He will. He will
give you strength in this life and eternal joy in the next. All you need to do is ask
him. Make this prayer a part of your Easter celebration.

Marion McIsaac
June 02, 1929 – February 25, 2014
Marion Jean McIsaac was born in Durham, Alberta on June 2, 1929 to Albert and
Betsy Durand. Her father was a farmer and coal miner while her mother was a
homemaker and also worked in a candle factory. Marion was the middle child
with a brother, Bill, and a sister, Janet. The family moved to British Columbia in
1936 where Marion completed her education.
Marion married Edward McIsaac on September 17, 1948. Edward was an
Iron worker. Marion worked at various occupations: at Steveston Packers, the
Blueberry Coop, and at King Neptune before retiring in 1985. The couple had
four children: 2 sons – Rod and Bob, and 2 daughters – Cindy and Debbie.
Edward passed away on April 1, 1995. Marion grieved his passing as well as the
deaths of her two sons but delighted in close relationships with her daughters –
her “partners in crime”. Marion had 6 grandchildren.
Family described Marion as pleasant and friendly. Marion’s favourite
memories were of the years spent raising her children. Before retirement she
was a very outgoing individual who also took pleasure in crocheting, reading and
cooking. Marion was a beautiful knitter and blessed many people with gifts of
sweaters, socks and afghans. In years past she participated in bowling as well.
Marion had a Catholic background and maintained her faith in God in a
quiet manner. She had a positive attitude and took life one day at a time.
Marion passed away on February 25, 2014. She is missed by her loving
family and the residents and staff of Rose Garden. We pray that they will know
God’s comfort in these days.

Halina’s first husband, Tom Fielding, was in the Air Force. Her second

the births of her two beautiful daughters, Stacey and Tanya.
Halina was an active person with a great sense of humour. Her home was
always full of young people who she took under her wing. Being a people person
Halina appreciated the company of others. She had wonderful friends in her

Flower & Garden Shop, a landscaping, growing and garden center with floral design. In 1976
they sold their business but even in retirement Peter worked in his garden and greenhouse.
After purchasing a campervan, Peter and Anna travelled all the way across the country and took

The couple had six children: Paul (Vivian)(& Elaine, mother of Becky & Jeff), Will
(Dianne), Bernadette (Cliff), Agnes (Steve), Ben (Anita) and Mary, nicknamed Micki. They also

also in bed. In Holland Peter sang in the church choir.
Peter loved going to his garden and working in his greenhouse. He also traveled with his
wife. They camped for many years, took bus tours and flew to Holland, Hawaii, Australia and
Mexico.
Peter passed away on March 25, 2014. He is missed by his loving family and many
friends here at Buchanan Lodge. We pray God’s peace and comfort on each one.
