Ontario Announces Big Tax Break For Farmers! The Ontario Government recently passed an amendment to Bill 36, the Local Food Act, which will not only help Ontario’s economy grow, but, will make locally grown food available to institutions such as schools and grocery stores. Many community groups have applauded this new direction that supports a sustainable food system with locally grown produce. Food banks, produce markets, school meal programs and operations like the Gleaners depend on local produce for their various community programs. Bill 36 gives farmers an additional incentive to donate to projects like the Gleaners with a 25% tax credit for the produce they donate. It is encouraging to see how this change reaches into the very heart of our communities and brings positive support to farmers, local food suppliers, and health choices for our dinner tables.
