The 67th Independence Day was celebrated on 15th August 2013 at NADFM & RTC Pune with full gaiety and glory. The Director Shri Shharat Sharma IDAS, after paying homage to the father of the nation, hoisted the national flag which was followed by the National Anthem. The function was followed by a short cultural programme by the IDAS Probationers, officers & staff members of NADFM. The cultural programme attended by family members, included patriotic songs, shayari, skits etc. A group song titled 'mile sur mera tumhara' by IDAS Probationers singing in languages as diverse as Kashmiri to Tamil, Bengali to Gujarati, Sindhi to Assamese, brought out the spirit of unity in concert. In addition a round of general knowledge quiz-both visual & factual, saw great participation from one & all. On this occasion a booklet titled “SAMEKAN”, a compendium of common sentences in various languages, was also released bringing out the synergy & bond we all share. Director NADFM appreciated the cultural programme and brought out the importance of Independence Day especially for civil servants to renew their pledge to the cause of service of the nation. The cultural programme was followed by refreshments and some rounds of games like handball, lemon-spoon race & musical chairs for the probationers, officers and staff of NADFM & RTC. In all, it was a day that witnessed the spirit of togetherness, unity in diversity, participation & initiative, a renewed consciousness of the beauty of our great nation & sense of pride and joy with an added realisation of responsibilities that we owe to our fellow countrymen. Shri Shharat Sharma, IDAS, Director NADFM hoisted the National Flag on Independence Day. IMPORTANT EVENTS SADBHAVNA DIWAS OBSERVED IN THE ACADEMY The Academy observed the Sadbhavna Diwas on 21st August 2013. The entire faculty, staff and the course participants gathered in the NADFM Conference hall where the Senior Accounts Officer (Training) administered to them the pledge in both Hindi and English. HINDI PAKHWADA CELEBRATIONS The Hindi Pakhwada celebrations commenced on Hindi Diwas i.e. 14th September, 2013. On the occasion , the officers and staff presented song and poetry performances. A number of competitions like translation, speaking, dictation, poetry and antakshari, etc., were held during the fortnight and the winners were awarded prizes. Talk on ‘HAPPY THOUGHTS’ A talk with visuals was organized on the topic “The Power of Happy Thoughts” on 8 th July, 2013. IMPORTANT VISITS IDAS PROBATIONERS CALL ON THE PCDA(O) PUNE On 2nd July, 2013 IDAS Probationers called on the PCDA(O) Pune. The IDAS Probationers were briefed about the working of PCDA(O) by Shri M A Lincoln, IDAS, PCDA. At the end of the interaction, Academy’s memento was presented by Shri Sahil Goyal, IDAS Probationer to Shri M A Lincoln, IDAS, PCDA(O) on behalf of NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS CALL ON THE CFA (AFK) KHADKI, PUNE On 3rd July, 2013 IDAS Probationers called on the CFA(Fys) Kirkee, Pune. Shri A K Tiwari, IDAS, CFA briefed the IDAS Probationers about the Ordnance Factories in general and Ammunition Factory, Khadki in particular. At the end of the presentation, a memento was presented by Shri Sahil Goyal, IDAS Probationer presented Academy’s memento to Shri A K Tiwari, IDAS, CFA(AFK) on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS CALL ON IFA(SC) On 4th July, 2013 IDAS Probationers called on the IFA(SC), Pune. Shri Suchindra Misra, IDAS, IFA(SC) discussed with the IDAS Probationers about the role, functions of IFA in the Command Headquarters and IFA system in general. Academy’s memento was presented by Shri Sahil Goyal, IDAS Probationer to Shri Suchindra Misra, IDAS, IFA(SC) on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT NDA On 7th July, 2013 IDAS Probationers visited National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. The probationers were taken around the vast and beautiful campus of the Academy by Flight Lieutenant J Bose. IDAS Probationers visited the Sudan Block, Habibullah Hall, Museum, Cadet Mess, Peacock Bay and were also shown various training facilities in the Academy for the cadets. A documentary on the life of the cadets in the Academy was also shown. At the end of the visit Shri Sahil Goyal IDAS Probationer presented Academy’s memento to Flight Lieutenant J Bose for the Commandant Air Marshall K S Gill on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT NCC GROUP HEADQUARTERS A visit to NCC Group Headquarters, Pune was organized for the IDAS Probationers on 17th July, 2013. Col Sanjay Kapoor welcomed the IDAS Probationers and then gave a presentation on NCC organization. The origin of NCC was traced back to the after math of World War 1. Various activities done by NCC like live camps at various levels, campaign for various social causes, adventure activities and Republic Day Parade were also highlighted. Some questions regarding entry procedure of NCC raised by IDAS Probationers were promptly answered. Shri Ashish Yadav IDAS(P) delivered a vote of thanks and Ms. Sangeeta Konde IDAS(P) presented to Col. Sanjay Kapoor the Academy’s memento on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IMPORTANT VISITS IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT AFMC PUNE A visit to Armed Forces Medical College Pune was organized in the morning of 18 th July, 2013. Col. Naveen Grover Professor of Microbiology welcomed the IDAS Probationers. Col. Naveen Grover made a presentation on the brief history of AFMC. AFMC being a premier Medical Institute of India acknowledged as a Centre of Excellence for education and research is presently affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences. The college provides training to under graduate and post graduate medical and nursing students with assured career prospects in the Defence Services. After the presentations the probationers were taken to various Labs, the New Library and the two New Messes. Probationers had breakfast at the Mess and after vote of thanks, the Academy’s memento was presented to Col. Naveen Grover on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT AIRFORCE STATION LOHEGAON A visit to Air Force Station Lohegaon , Pune was organized in the morning of 19 th July, 2013. The IDAS Probationers were welcomed by W.Cdr. V P Chaudhary. He mentioned that the Lohegaon, Pune Airbase Station was one of the oldest Air Force Base Stations in India. He took the IDAS Probationers to different key areas of the base station where the probationers could see the actual working of the different sections as well as see the take off of SUKHO-30 MKI. The IDAS Probationers then met Air Commodore Surat Singh VM, VSM, Air Officer Commanding over breakfast. After vote of thanks, the Academy’s memento was presented to the Air Commodore Surat Singh VM,VSM, AOC . W.Cdr V P Chaudhary presented a cap and memento of SUKHOI-30 MKI to all the IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) On 22nd July, 2013 the IDAS Probationers visited National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN), Pune. The Probationers were taken around and shown various functions of the institute i.e. Out Patient Clinic, Yoga Classes, Magazine, Health Shop, Naturopathic Diet Centre. The most interesting was that naturopathy is a drugless non-invasive rational and evidence based system of medicine imparting treatments with natural elements based on the Theory of vitality, theory toxemia, theory of self healing capacity of the body and the principles of healthy living. The applied aspects of Naturopathy includes mainly fasting and diet supported by treatments with natural elements which includes Hydro therapy, Chromo therapy, Mud therapy, Manipulative therapy, Electro therapy, Acupuncture, Magneto therapy, Physiotherapy, Exercise and Yoga Therapy IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT ARTIFICAL LIMB CENTRE PUNE On 25th July, 2013 the IDAS Probationers visited the Artifical Limb Centre, (ALC) Pune. The Probationers were taken around the Centre and told that although ALC was raised with the primary objective of meeting the prosthetic and orthotic requirements of disabled personnel of the armed forces, from 1951 the facilities were gradually extended to civilians as well. In 1964, sub centre were established at Delhi and Lucknow to provide repair facilities. Additional sub centre have since been established at Chandimandir, Guwahati and Bangalore. The centre has received several awards including the Maharashtra State Award and the National Technology Award. The motto of the centre is to “Make the Dream of Every Amputee to Walk Come True”. IMPORTANT VISITS IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT COLLEGE OF MILITARY ENGINEERING PUNE On 25th July, 2013 the IDAS Probationers visited the College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune. The Probationers were taken around the College and saw for themselves that CME offers training for personnel, both Officers and Personnel Below Officers Rank (PBOR) of the Corps of Engineers, other arms & services, Navy, Air Force, Para-Military forces, Police and also civilians. Its students also include soldiers from friendly foreign countries like the Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal. The college is affiliated to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) for its B.Tech and M.Tech degrees. Its graduate and post graduate courses are recognized by The ‘All India Council for Technical Education’ (AICTE) and University of Pune’ (UoP). IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT FILM & TELIVISION INSTITUTE OF INDIA IDAS Probationers visited Film & Telivision Institute of India (FTII) on 29th July, 2013. The Probationers were received by Shri K M Sheikh Production Manager and briefed by Shri Prakash Magdum IIS Registrar with FTII. FTII has got long standing reputation of creating wonderful filmmakers and film personalities since its inception in 1960. Erstwhile Prabhat Studio, has been bestowed with beautiful and huge campus. The Probationers were taken to various sets, sound mixing division and editing room. Visit to the museum gave opportunity to probationers to see some rare collection of costumes and other instruments being used in old movies. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT PAO (Ors) NASHIK Probationers reached Nasik in the evening of 30th July, 2013. On 31st July, 2013 the probationers visited Pay and Accounts Office(ORs). This PAO (ORs) is considered to be the largest PAO of Defence Accounts Department as it deals with pay and claims of around 1,85,000 army personnel of the Corps of Artillery & Army Air Defence. Probationers were provided inputs regarding the functioning of PAO and were taken to various sections. They were briefed about ‘Dolphin System’ and made to realize the wonders it has done by cutting down processing time. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT SCHOOL OF ARTILLERY, DEOLALI On 1st August, 2013 IDAS Probationers visited School of Artillery, Deolali, Nashik. School of Artillery, Deolali caters to the training needs of Corps of Artillery of Indian Army. The IDAS Probationers met Lt. Gen Narula he explained the importance of Corps of Artillery and its interaction with Defence Accounts Department. After meetings and presentations about history of School of Artillery, Organisational structure, training needs programmes and its functioning, probationers were taken to the field where training related to IMG firing was happening. Probationers were explained about functioning of IMG. IMPORTANT VISITS IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LIMITED, OZAR On 2nd August 2013, IDAS Probationers visited Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, (HAL), Ozar. A premier state-owned aeronautical industry, it is situated at Ozar Township in Nashik District of Maharashtra State. It is engaged in the design, manufacture and overhaul of a variety of aviation products from basic trainers to highly sophisticated supersonic fighters, helicopters, transport aircraft, engines, accessories and Nashik Division of MiG Complex (comprising Nashik and Koraput Divisions) is one vital constituent of the vast HAL facilities. It is, perhaps, the only and the largest single facility of its kind in the world, today, outside the Russian Federation, involved in the repair/overhaul and manufacture of MiG series aircraft, under one roof. The Probationers were taken to Machine Section where huge robotic machine were carving out required tools from alloy mixed metals imported from Russia. Then the probationers visited the assembly division which is divided between fuselage Part-I, Part-II and Part-III. Engine is manufactured at HAL Koraput, Orissa and brought to HAL Ozar to be fitted with Sukhoi-30 MKI. Probationers were also taken to the overhauling workshop of HAL, Ozar, where they were explained about the functioning of Sukhoi-30 MKI. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT AO(GE) LONAVALA On 17th August, a trip to AO(GE) office, Lonavala was arranged. The Probationers were briefed about the functioning of AO(GE) office. After the visit, IDAS Probationers visited INS Shivaji museum. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT AHMEDNAGAR On 29th August, 2013 the IDAS Probationers visitedearly morning after breakfast they reached Armoured Corps Centre & School. Lt. Col. Vikram Singh (GSO-1-IT) received them and briefed about the structure and function of the Armoured Corps. The mission statement of ACC & S is tactical and technical training which is used in maneuver warfare. A presentation was also made during the briefing. Ms. Sangita K IDAS Probationer presented Academy’s memento to Lt. Col. Vikram Singh on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. Probationers then visited the CAV Tank Museum the only museum of its kind in Asia; stands second in the world and houses more than 50 exhibits of Vintage Armoured Fighting Vehicle. There were a large large number of exhibits from 1st and 2nd World Wars -the oldest being Silver Ghost Rolls Royce Armoured Car. After lunch probationers visited LAO Ahmednagar where they were exposed to working structure, functions and various report generations. In the evening they visited the Ahmednagar Fort where freedom fighters were kept as prisoners during the Quit India Movement 1942. At night they had dinner with Shri Vilas Pawar, CEO Ahmednagar Cantonment. On 30th August, 2013 at 7.30 am probationers reached the driving ground for tanks. They got a feel of the T-90, T-72 and Arjun-MBT tanks. There after they visited School of Tactical Training (SOTT), Shalabat Khan’s Tomb, PAO(ORs) ACR & MIR.. IMPORTANT VISITS IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT CAFVD KIRKEE IDAS Probationers visited Central Armoured Fighting Vehicles Depot (CAFVD), Kirkee, Pune on 11th September, 2013. They were received by Senior Provisioning Officer, Col. Dillip Pandey who later made a short presentation on the brief history, role, utility to armed forces and the Inventory Management System of Ordanance Depots in general and that of CAFVD, Kirkee in particular. After briefing and tea a visit to Provisioning Branch was made to show how the provisioning for spare parts for T-72, T-90, Arjun MBT and various other armoured infantry carriers is done at CAFVD, kirkee. A brief visit was also paid to the Control Section and Warehouse-2, where controlling of issue of spare parts and how spare parts are kept in the warehouses were explained in brief. The Commandant of CAFVD Brig. R.K.S. Kushwaha briefed about the practical difficulties faced while procuring the spare parts. After the vote of thanks, Academy’s memento was presented to the Commandant on behalf of Director, NADFM & IDAS Probationers. IDAS PROBATIONERS VISIT PAO(ORs-INT) A visit to PAO(ORs- INT) Pune was organized by the office of the PCDA(SC), for training on Dolphin system on 12th September, 2013. The probationers were hosted by Ms. Mital Sudhir Hiremath, IDAS, ACDA. After a short presentation on the system, she explained the system. This was followed by a visit to the various sections in the PAO.
