2009 Intensive Program RG 146 Financial Compliance INVEST IN KNOWLEDGE 2009 INTENSIVE PROGRAM—RG 146 FINANCIAL COMPLIANCE RG 146 Financial Compliance (previously known as PS 146) Who should enrol? These modules are competency requirements for people who wish to enter the financial services industry including banking, insurance and advising; also for people wishing to further develop their career opportunities. These modules are relevant to: • Insurance and Mortgage Brokers • General Insurance Products • Accounts and Banking Staff • Basic Deposit Products and Non-Cash Payment Facilities • Fund Managers • Property or Real Estate Agents To determine the level with which you must be competent or compliant, you should consult with your employer or visit the ASIC website: www.asic.gov.au RMIT University is registered by ASIC to provide RG 146 training at Tiers 1 & 2 to meet ASIC’s generic and specialist knowledge and skills requirements. Content Program features The benefits of RMIT’s RG 146 study include: • Access to online study and learning centre • Clear and concise, self-contained study materials • Telephone, email and face-to-face support from RMIT teachers who are experienced finance industry professionals • The Financial Services Industry (Generic Knowledge) • You must also undertake at least one of the following modules in area of specialisation: The Australian Securities and Investment Commission (ASIC), Regulatory Guide 146, sets out minimum training and education standards for people providing financial product advice to clients. You can now study RG 146 compliance modules online enabling you to complete it at a time and place that suits you. Core Units • Planners and Advisors • Trustees of Self-managed Super Funds Online RG 146 study To achieve ASIC Tier 2 compliance you must complete and pass the relevant modules based upon the following units: Tier 1 Compliance Program This is the most popular and comprehensive level of compliance. To achieve ASIC Tier 1 compliance, you must complete and pass the following modules: Core Units • The Financial Services Industry (Generic Knowledge) Assessment To pass these modules and be deemed compliant, you must study the material and pass the minimum assessment requirement. The final assessment consists of multiple choice and short answer questions based upon the module learning material. Fees Each module costs $400, except Securities and Derivatives which is $450 and Self Managed Super Funds which is $650. This includes self contained self-study materials, academic support, assessment and certificate. ($100 resit fee applies) • Manage Client Services (Skills) Study/delivery mode You must also complete at least one of the following elective modules depending on the area of specialisation you are advising in: These modules are provided as flexible online self-study materials (distance education). • Managed Investments • Financial Planning Face-to-face teaching and onsite training for employees and groups can also be provided. Please contact RMIT for details and costs. • Access to student services for personal development • Life Insurance Duration • Superannuation • Self-paced (personal) study, writing skills, literacy and math’s essentials • Specialist units As RG 146 study is provided online you can commence at any time. • RMIT’s extensive library and online learning lab • Access to relevant links to government and regulatory websites • Cost competitive, flexible and effective training for you and/or your employees • Assessments which can be conducted by: • an authorised representative compliance manager • an accredited employer in your workplace • RMIT University Program outcomes You will receive an RMIT University Certificate of Completion which confirms that you are ASIC compliant for Tiers 1 or 2 (based on program undertaken by participant). Successful completion of the RG 146 program can also be credited towards RMIT’s Certificate IV and Diploma level studies in Financial Services. • Securities and Derivatives (2 separate assessments) • Self-Managed Super Funds (single unit) New: Self managed super funds module The new Self-Managed Super Funds module enables advisers and individual trustees to learn how to effectively manage, provide advice on self-managed super portfolios and remain compliant with legislation requirements. Tier 2 Compliance Program This is the basic compliance level. This program has been designed for people who are dealing with customers on their financial affairs, providing options, referral and information but not giving specific product and personal advice. You have 6 months for the completion of assessments within a module. However participants may opt to re-enrol or apply for an extension. (fees apply) Modules include materials and assessments, which are based upon National Training Package (FNS04) and ASIC requirements.
