Sound knowledge and understanding of (SCL1) OR experience in (SCL2) the field of environmental/industry regulation with a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political issues associated with environmental/industry regulation including health and environmental impacts and risk communication. During my Bachelor of Science (Major in Environmental Science) studies at Macquarie University and whilst employed in various relevant environmental positions in the workplace, I have acquired a strong knowledge of environmental/industry regulation with an understanding of the socio-political issues associated with environmental/industry regulation including health and environmental impacts and risk communication. Through my practical experience and university studies, I have obtained a practical working knowledge of relevant Western Australian and Commonwealth environmental legislation including: The Environmental Protection Act 1986 The Environment Protection and Biodiversity and Conservation Act 1999 I have interpreted and applied environmental/industry regulations on a daily basis in my current role as Project Environmental Scientist at Keith Lindbeck & Associates. I use my knowledge of regulations, legislations, policies and procedures to gain approvals, commence, operate and decommission projects, prepare proposals, environmental management strategies and rehabilitation plans for the mining and agriculture industries and also identify potential environmental issues, limitations and opportunities in the early stages of project development. Additionally I provide clients with advice and support when undertaking the EIA process. In my current role as Project Environmental Scientist at Keith Lindbeck & Associates, I have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the socio-political issues associated with environmental/industry regulation including health and environmental impacts and risk communication whilst working on all aspects of the environmental consulting industry from impact and site assessment to environmental management, compliance and environmental reporting, environmental training, flora and fauna surveys and rehabilitation, specialises in mineral mining and exploration throughout Western Australia. Keeping mindful of environmental impacts and risk, I analyse data, seek correlations between human activities and environmental effects and also provide scientific and technical guidance and support to clients. I am aware that ecological processes underpinning commodity production have been largely overlooked by theories of social regulation and governance. Conventional applications of regulation theory, often reduce the complex interactions between the environment and processes of accumulation to an homogenous surface on which the institutions of social regulation are inscribed. By contrast the metabolism of production, the flows of raw materials, energy and wastes central to the production of commodities from the natural environment can provoke its own set of contradictions for particular industrial sectors. These contradictions can emerge to challenge accumulation in specific industrial sectors when existing practices and institutions fail to ensure continued access to resources and/or to effectively regulate the impacts of production on the environment. In an attempt to avoid costly government regulation and other liabilities as a result of environmental externalities, numerous of companies have promoted industry self-regulation; the association of companies to voluntarily control their collective behavior. In recent years environmental self-regulatory programs have proliferated in various countries. Industries have attempted to avoid costly government regulation and to placate concerned stakeholders by promising to voluntarily reduce their environmental impacts. 1|Page Selection Criteria Environmental Officer Pool Ref No: PA1204SEO Department of Environment and Conservation 2.
