The DYS Western Region Community Resource Guide: Education, Employability and
Social Services was developed by Commonwealth Corporation in collaboration with
the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. Community Resource Guides have
also been developed for each of the other four DYS regions: Central, Metro, Northeast,
and Southeast.
The Guide contains education resources, including alternative and non-traditional high
school programs and GED programs, employability resources, including Career
Centers, job search and training resources, and social services supports. Each Guide
is organized by the workforce development areas in the Region and also includes a
listing of statewide resources in the back section. A back flap is included in the Guide
to store additional resources as they are gathered for use with youth.
Special thanks in the development of this Guide go to Rebecca Moore, Community
Monitor, DYS and the DYS Community Resource Specialists who contributed material
for the development of the Guide. In addition, Andrea Bertucci, consultant and staff at
Commonwealth Corporation, was instrumental in the data collection and writing of the
Guide. A piece of student artwork, designed specifically for this Guide by Justin R., is
included in the statewide section of the Guide.
