Region Community Resource Guide: Education, Employability and Social Services was developed by Commonwealth Corporation in collaboration with the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services. Community Resource Guides have also been developed for each of the other four DYS regions: Central, Metro, Northeast, and Southeast. The Guide contains education resources, including alternative and non-traditional high school programs and GED programs, employability resources, including Career Centers, job search and training resources, and social services supports. Each Guide is organized by the workforce development areas in the Region and also includes a listing of statewide resources in the back section. A back flap is included in the Guide to store additional resources as they are gathered for use with youth. Special thanks in the development of this Guide go to Rebecca Moore, Community Monitor, DYS and the DYS Community Resource Specialists who contributed material for the development of the Guide. In addition, Andrea Bertucci, consultant and staff at Commonwealth Corporation, was instrumental in the data collection and writing of the Guide. A piece of student artwork, designed specifically for this Guide by Justin R., is included in the statewide section of the Guide. introduction 2010-2011 COMMUNITY RESOURCE GUIDE | MASSACHUSETTS DEPARTMENT OF YOUTH SERVICES | COMMONWEALTH CORPORATION Berkshire County Q EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES: ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION Community Transition Program 21 Williams Street, Suite 3, North Adams, MA 01247 413-662-3275 Grades Served: 9, 10, 11, 12 Eligibility: Expelled, Frequent Truancy, Involved with DSS, Involved with DYS, Poor Academic Record, Returned Dropout, Suspended Component: Academic Remediation or Tutoring, Community College Participation, Community Service – Learning, Conflict Resolution Training, Core Academic Classes, Crisis Intervention, Elective Classes, In-House Counseling, Life Skills Training, Parent/Family Involvement, Peer Mediation, Referrals to External Counseling, Partnership with a Community-Based Organization, Technology-Based Instruction, Partnership – Not Connected with School-Based Learning Hibbard Alternative School 280 Newell Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 413-448-9635 Grades Served: 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 Eligibility: Frequent Truancy, Involved with DSS, Involved with DYS, Parenting, Poor Academic Record, Returned Dropout, Suspended Component: Academic Remediation or Tutoring, Community College Participation, Community Service – Learning, Conflict Resolution Training, Core Academic Classes, Crisis Intervention, Elective Classes, In-House Counseling, Life Skills Training, Parent/Family Involvement, Peer Mediation, Referrals to External Counseling, School-Based Work and Learning, Partnership with a Community-Based Organization, Social Skills Training, Technology-Based Instruction Hours: Before School Juvenile Resource Center (JRC), Pittsfield 264 Second Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201 413-443-5942 www.pittsfield.net/safeschools/JRC Description: The Juvenile Resource Center (JRC) provides services to youth who are in danger of dropping out of school.
