Massage Massage is the manipulation of skin, muscles, ligaments and connective tissue for the purpose of decreasing muscle tension and increasing physical comfort in musculature and surrounding joints. Who are the massage therapists? The IU Health Center massage therapists are certified professionals. The massage therapists meet specific training requirements and adhere to a strict code of ethics and professional conduct. Increases circulation Decreases muscle tension Increases flexibility Improves mood and promotes relaxation Massage is a chemical-free way to relax What takes place in a professional massage? First, you will fill out a short, confidential intake and medical history form. Next, you will talk with the massage therapist who will answer any questions you might have. The massage takes place in a private room on a massage table especially designed for your comfort. In private, you will undress to your level of comfort and lie under a sheet and blanket. The massage will last 45 minutes. Massage lotion or oil will be used. At the completion of the massage you will rest for a short time, dress and your visit is complete.
