Theatre Troupe: By participating in theatre, you begin to earn Thespian points that will eventually mean induction into The International Thespian Society and a varsity letter in Theater at Westerville South High School. The Theatre Troupe is an excellent way to meet people, participate in theater workshops, see shows, and get involved. There are numerous leadership opportunities. Theatre Troupe refers to all aspects of the theatre. Thespian Troupe #513 is an honor society of theatre students at Westerville South High School. Membership into the troupe happens only after the student has been involved with at least two full length shows; worked each full strike they were involved with and earn ten (10) Thespian points. *Please note: If you do not help with the entire strike of a South production, you will NOT be awarded any points for that particular show. Once you become a Thespian, you become eligible to participate in the programs specifically for Thespians, which include auditioning for the state Thespian production, applying for State Student Officer (SSO), and auditioning for the Bob Fose Thespian Scholarship. Additionally, you will receive one one-year subscription to Dramatics magazine, a certificate of induction, a membership card into ITS, and a South varsity letter. SOUTH THESPIAN POINT SCALE The points listed below are the maximum that may be earned for a specific assignment. The directors will evaluate your performance and determine your points accordingly. As a rule of thumb, one point is equal to about 10 hours of quality work. Remember, the points you receive are based upon responsible and quality work. If you are late, miss rehearsals, goof around, etc., you may receive fewer points than are listed on this suggested index. • ACTING: IN A FULL-LENGTH PRODUCTION: Major role (5), Supporting role and/or Featured Dancer (4), Ensemble (3) • DIRECTING: Asst. director (5), Dance captain (4) • PRODUCTION: Stage Manager (5), Asst. Stage Manager (4), Building crew (1/4-5), Running crew (3), Design (4), Make-up Crew (3), Strike (1/4), Prompter (1), Orchestra (4) • BUSINESS: Box Office (2), Usher (1/4), • ORIGINAL WRITING: 1-act (3), Full length (5), Screenplay (1-3) • OFFICERS: President (5), Vice president (4), Secretary (4), Public Relations (3), House Manager (3), Wardrobe/Makeup Mistress (3), Historian (3) • CLUB ACTIVITIES: TOTS-EAT (1) • OTHER: Area festival (1), State festival (3), attending a play (1/8), International festival (4), All-Ohio auditions (1/4), All-Ohio cast/crew (6), IEs (1), club meetings (1/8 per meeting), Leadership Day (1) 5 Point scale reflects that Westerville South students have many more opportunities for participation in theater events than students in schools that do not have as strong of a program. It is intended to recognize those individuals who fully participate in the theatre program at South. Please Note: Points will not be awarded for participation in our productions if the student does not fully participate in the entire strike of that production. Attendance is always taken at the end of each strike. It is everyone's obligation and ethical responsibility to help return the theatre to neutral after any production. Any shows attended or involvement in work outside of South needs to be turned in to Wolfe with your name, where/when the event took place, what the event is and your role in the event (character name, audience member, etc). • Please note that points may vary due to the nature of the production (i.e. one-act vs. full-length at the Troupe Director’s discretion YEARLY AWARDS SENIOR AWARDS – include BEST THESPIAN and SENIOR TECHNICAL THEATRE awards. NAME CHANGE: From here on out our stage crew/management team will be known as Technicians. EVERYONE who is in the Theatre Troupe should plan to participate in EVERY show in some way (acting, technical crew, usher, build/strike). Even you aren’t able to commit to the whole show, the expectation is that you are still around. o STRIKE is all hands on deck! Spaces (including but not limited to: stage, scene shop, costumes storage, prop storage, dressing rooms, theatre lobby, and LWay) are to be clean and free of clutter at all times. As a family, we will all have access to these things. Please be respectful of the things and spaces we are given. CONFLICTS HAPPEN, I know. HOWEVER, you will be expected to list all major conflicts on your audition sheet. The two weeks before any show are conflict FREE. You must be able to attend all rehearsals and performances, including strike. Since I am not a full time teacher, communication is key! Should you be sick or have an emergency, please contact me via text message at 614-774-2374. The more time I am given notice, the more time I am able to adjust rehearsals for the evening. I want to work with Band students and make it so students involved in Fall Sports and Marching Band can participate. You need to be organized with your conflicts and honest to yourself about your time commitment. Expect to be challenged, expect to question everything, expect to respect and be respected, expect to improvise, expect to be flexible, expect to feel like an artist, expect to have fun, expect to love. 7 BOOSTERS The Westerville South Theatre Troupe is graciously sponsored by the parent run Drama Boosters organization.
