 Scope and Sequence of Literary Texts Language A (English and French), grades 3 – 12 Lincoln Community School As part of the Language Arts Curriculum at Lincoln Community School, students read and study a selection from among the texts below, either at or above the grade level indicated. African Studies: indicated in Green below; Graphic Novel: indicated in Purple below. Grades 6-­‐10 have an assigned writing focus. Students will experience a wide range of written forms in each grade level; grade level focus will encourage great precision and mastery of the genre in focus Grade Novels and Selected Short Stories Drama Film Studies Writing Focus In Grades K-­‐5, students read at their reading level from leveled classroom libraries. Through ongoing reading assessments, the teachers determine the students’ reading levels, allowing for differentiation in the classroom. The ES Library is set-­‐up like other school and public libraries, having sections for easy fiction, fiction, non-­‐fiction, and reference materials. Students are taught and encouraged how to find just-­‐right books independently.
