Robert Frost’s granddaughter, who has been an FDP member for twenty years, has just published a book about her grandfather which Linda Hart will review in the summer issue of the newsletter. The publisher has kindly donated a copy of the book, which we can raffle to raise funds for the FDP. The raffle will take place at this meeting. Linda Hart has provided the following information: You Come Too: My Journey with Robert Frost, by Lesley Lee Francis, is part memoir, part autobiography, part biography, part travelogue, part anthology, part literary criticism, part women’s studies. All these genres are used to give the reader an insider’s view of Robert Frost the father and grandfather, as well as the poet, and the many women in his life (Susan Hayes Ward, editor, Amy Lowell, poet, Harriet Monroe, editor, and of course his wife Elinor) who were crucial to his development as a poet. There are poems throughout the book – not only Frost’s but those by Lesley, by her mother (Frost’s daughter) and other family members. The longest sections and the most detail is about her mother whose life was full of challenging ventures and exciting adventures. You Come Too is published by the University of Virginia Press, in hardback, 252 pages, with 40 illustrations (several of them never before published), at a recommended retail price of £32.50.
