PREREQUISITES:
Physics 2701, Algebra (Math 1130),
Trigonometry (Math 1300, aka “Precalculus”)
(completed with a “C” grade or higher)
TEXT:
Knight, Jones & Field, College Physics
[©2014 3rd edition]
Pearson, Addison Wesley with “Mastering Physics”
MATERIALS:
CSUEB Physics 2702 Lab Manual (on blackboard)
Scientific Notebook (for lab)
Scientific Calculator (NOT a cell phone or wireless device)
Scantron forms for exams may be required. No form, zero on exam!
----------------------------------------------------------------ATTENDENCE: You should come to class. In addition, several times a week, you
should:
 Check your official University Email (daily)
 Check BLACKBOARD for announcements, lecture materials, quiz schedules
 Check MASTERING PHYSICS for announcements, homework, “mini-quizzes”
BLACKBOARD: Each student should have a valid Blackboard account, and check it regularly
for announcements, handouts, lectures, topical supplements and “mini-quizzes”.
LAB: Required! If you miss 4 lab activities you will receive an “F” grade for the entire course.
Missing more than one activity may severely impact your grade. Labs start this week!
EXAMS:
The plan is to have Quiz 1, Midterm, Quiz 2, Final. In addition there will be a
few “miniquizzes” that will be done on-line (either in Blackboard or in Mastering Physics). Your
lowest quiz score and lowest miniquiz will be dropped. You are required to attend the midterm
exams and the final.Make up exams will not be given except for college accepted reasons with
documentation (e.g. death in family, documented illness). Sample questions will be given out
before the exams. NO wireless devices on exams. Dictionaries, either paper or electronic, may
not be used unless approved BEFORE exams by instructor (some quizzes will have definitions
of terms on them, and a student using a dictionary would have an unfair advantage).
GRADES:
Approximate weighting: Lab (20%), Midterm (20%), Quizzes (10%) (lowest
one dropped), Final (25%), Homework-miniquizzes (25%). Missing multiple lab activities could
lower your grade by up to one full grade point. To avoid a “D” in the course your average exam
performance will need to be better than 25 to 30%.
Learning Disabilities:
If you need extra classroom assistance or time allotted for exams or
assignments due to a disability, please contact me in the first few days of the quarter or as soon
as possible. You must obtain the proper authorization forms from the Accessibility Services
office, Library Complex 2400.

HOMEWORK:
There will be regularly assigned homework problems. Its important for you to
spend time on them, even if you don’t get it all correct. Most of homework will use “Mastering
Physics”, but some may be “old fashion” pencil on paper.
 Mastering Physics: login at www.masteringphysics.com
 Course: "CSUEB 2015W Physics 2702 MW 6pm Pezzaglia”
 Course ID: MPPEZZAGLIA86807
 You will need an “access code” to pay for the service, either:
o Came with your textbook (if you bought from bookstore)
o Purchased separately from bookstore
o Or you can buy directly from Mastering Physics online
WEB: Some additional material may be posted at my website:

Login needed for some parts, Login as “csuebstudent”, password: “newton9”
Academic Honesty: . Any cheating/plagiarism on exams (or homework) will automatically
result with a “zero” score, and a referral to the student discipline office for evaluation and
censure. http://www20.csueastbay.edu/academic/academic-policies/academic-dishonesty.html
Supplementary Instruction Course Physics 2712: If you feel you may need more help,
consider taking this extra 0.5 unit course, either Thur or Fri 9:40-10:30 in N247. Limited space!
