R.D. Turner, Provincial Treasurer. Ordinary revenues for the period totalled $42,981,556; ordinary expenditures were $38,257,675. Discounting, therefore, emergency measures necessitated by the flood in 1950, Manitoba's surplus on ordinary account for the fiscal year ending March 31, 1951, was 4,72318$1. Extraordinary expenses involved in defraying costs of the flood helped to push both revenues and expenditures to new record highs. A $1* million contributimn towards emergency expenditures by the Federal Government brought total provincial revenues to 555,481,556. The sum of $15 463,950 on extraordinary flood account had been expended at the end of the 1950-51 fiscal year. Total provincial expenditures, therefore, amounted to :53,721,625. Net revenue from the Manitoba Government Liquor Control Commission amounted to :/7,208,345 after .1750,000 had been deducted from gross profits to purchase merchandise. Net receipts were 2455,045 more than the estimated figure. Automobile licenses, gasoline tax and the amusement tax were among items showing greatest increase of actual revenue over estimated revenue. Automobile licenses, estimated at $2 million, contributed -(;21780,698 to the provincial income. Gasoline taxes brought in ';5,90M87, or $700,887 more than estimated. Actual expenditures in all government departments were less than amounts budgeted. Health and Public Welfare expended 043,442 .less than the estimated $9,187,221. Expenditures for Public Works were dow $470,9211 and Mines and 'Natural Resources $171,381 less than estimated. The Department of Agriculture and Immigration expended $652,820 during the year a decrease of 290,634 from the estimated amount. Largest single item of under-expenditure in this department was the sum of f225,000 ear-narked for grasshopper control. Heavy infestation in many agricultural areas had been forecast, but weather conditions unfavorable to hatching reduced the threat and only )49,000 was required for this purpose.
