Choose two activities for your book report. Each activity will be worth 10 marks.
Marks will be given for: content, understanding, spelling, grammar, details in illustrations, neatness and organization.(20 marks)
1. SEE WHAT I READ - this is a visual activity. A scene from the story can be created, or a likeness of one or more of the characters from the story can be drawn.
Include a paragraph describing your scene or character.
2. TIME CAPSULE - this activity provides people living at a “future” time with the reasons The Outsiders is such an outstanding book., and gives these “future” people reasons why it should be read. Make a time capsule-type of design, and neatly print or write your reasons inside the capsule. Include at least 8 items.
3. INTO THE FUTURE - this activity predicts what might happen if The
Outsiders were to continue. It may take the form of a story in narrative or dramatic form, or a visual display.
4. A LETTER TO THE AUTHOR - in this activity, you can write a letter to S.E.
Hinton. Tell her what you liked about the novel, and ask her any questions you may have about the writing of the book. You might want to give her new suggestions for a sequel. (150 words or more)
5. GUESS WHO OR WHAT? - this activity takes the form of several games of
“Twenty Questions”. The reporter gives a series of clues about a character from the story in a vague to precise, general to specific order. After all clues have been given, the identity of the mystery character must be deduced. This can also be done on an event in the story. Create at least 5 games.
6. A CHARACTER COMES TO LIFE - Suppose one of the characters in The
Outsiders came to life and walked into your home or classroom? Write what this character sees, hears, and feels as he or she experiences the world in which you live. (150 words or more)
7. COMING ATTRACTION - The Outsiders is about to be remade into a new movie and you have been chosen to design the promotional poster. Include the title and author of the book, a listing of the main characters and the contemporary actors who will play them, a drawing of a scene from the book, and a paragraph synopsis of the story.
8. STANDARD FORM - this activity is a standard one in which story elements are defined and supported with examples from The Outsiders. Areas to include are a plot summary, character analysis, setting description, theme explanation, and a personal evaluation of the story.
