“Meet our Musicians”
-Maria von TrappIt’s June 1, 2002...approximately 75 people are gathered
at The Red Lion for the 2nd Dinner Auction Fundraiser
“Perfect Cadence” for Inland Northwest Musicians and
it’s the first year that Sandy Gross is serving as our auctioneer--now fast forward to May 8, 2015, where approximately 90 people gathered in the wonderfully appointed Cayuse Room at Wildhorse Resort for the 15th
Annual Dinner Auction Fundraiser for INWM- Keep
the Beat Going! The dinner tables were delightfully
decorated with eggs and chickens (get the “Beat”?), Sue
Friese shared her fantastic collection of old-fashioned
eggbeaters, images of INWM through the years flashed
on the screens overhead, and the Silent Auction Tables
were loaded with nearly 200 items--the assistance provided in solicitation of items by all members of INWM
was essential in making the event successful, and is
always appreciated! It was a great party, as has become
the custom for this event, and was enjoyed by all! Silent
Auction bidding was enthusiastic, particularly for a lawn
mower provided by WalMart Distribution Center.
Sandy, still our sensational auctioneer, worked the participants on a list of about 30 items such as a Horse &
Buggy Ride from the Vernams of Lostine, 2 “Little
Brown” Whiskey Jugs provided by Tom & Joyce
Matheson of Irrigon, Helen Miller’s customary goodie
basket sent in from Athena and a handmade Iron Fire pit
brought over by the folks at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution. The entertainment, provided by the Inmate Choir at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution
(via DVD), was very moving! The Dinner Auction is an
important element in fundraising on behalf of INWM-the event brought in over 9200 much-needed dollars,
plus it provided a time of reflection on the years activities as well as the opportunity to get together with
INWM friends in a non-musical venue.
We are already looking forward to the 16th Dinner Auction, scheduled for Saturday, May 21, 2016! Please start
thinking of items you can collect and friends you can
invite to this annual celebration of the Inland Northwest
Family!
You and your voice are needed in the Chorale.
We are always looking for more singers. The
Chorale meets on Monday night 7-9 pm at
Harris Junior Academy in Pendleton. Just
show up or contact INWM office at 541-2894636 for more information.
Summertime fun! Once again Inland Northwest Musicians participated
in the Caledonian Days Parade in July. We had a lot of fun decorating and
riding on the truck that belongs to Larry & Suzanne Coppock. Following the
parade we were able to take in some of the music and games in the Athena
Park. Oh yes, did I mention that we brought home a First Place ribbon!
PROGRAM ADS ON SALE NOW
If you own a business or know of someone that might benefit
from placing an advertisement in our Concert Program now is
the time to purchase one. The ad is seen in approximately 22
communities and we had over 3,000 concert goers last year. If
you are interested please contact Inland Northwest Musicians
office for more details. Our number is 541-289-4696 or send us
an e-mail at inwm@machmedia.net.
We have almost completed the
organization of our music library.
We will be having another library
work party January so keep your
ears open for the date. The more
hands the quicker the work.
Inland Northwest Musicians is looking for someone that is interested in volunteering their services
as a photo journalist. This person would work with the office staff in selecting concerts to photograph. We would also need them to organize our pictures for a pictorial history for our organization.
Volunteers are what makes our organization work. We are always looking for people that will volunteer their time and talents. Without good support we would be unable to continue what we do. Help
us to continue to “Move Music”.
Please contact the Inland Northwest Musicians office if you or someone you know would be interested in this project. That phone number is 541-289-4696 or email us at inwm@machmedia.net.
Mike Kellison was born in Seaside, Oregon and
has lived in Oregon his entire life. His family
moved to Hermiston in the late 70’s. He started
playing music in Junior High at Armand Larive
with Mr. Ric Sherman. His first instrument was
the flute but singing was his first musical outlet.
He graduated from Hermiston High School and went to
work for UPS. He worked at UPS for 15 years all the while
participating in music ensembles at BMCC and on his own.
He finally decided, with much encouragement from his wife,
to leave UPS and go back to college and pursue a degree in
music. He attended BMCC and EOU, where he performed
in just about every ensemble that he could, including African Drumming, The EOU Drumline, Jazz Band, Guitar Ensemble, Grande Ronde Symphony, Symphonic Band, and
accompanying the choir. His main instrument of study was
guitar and he received his Bachelor of Music degree with
Summa Cum Laude honors from EOU. He now resides in
Hermiston with his wife Amber and their two children, Keegan and Kaiti. He has been involved with INWM for a couple of years playing the upright bass and he is currently serving on the board of directors. He teaches music to students
of all ages and musical goals. He is affiliated with the Oregon Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers
National Association. He would love to see everyone in out
community become involved in musical activities and have
their lives enriched by them whether it is through performing, classes, or attending performances.
