PowerPoint Glossary Active Tab- The tab currently displayed Animation – Special visual and sound effects applied to text of content Clip - Single media file Clip Art Task Pane – Allows you to search for clips Clip Collections – Combine topic-related clips into categories Color- Defines the hues of the characters Contextual Tabs- Tabs displayed when you perform certain tasks Scroll Arrow- Tabs displayed when you perform certain tasks Keywords- Words or phrases that further describe the document Custom Layout- If none of the standard layouts meet your needs, create a Custom Layout Demoting- Creating a lower-level paragraph Enhanced Screen Tip- On-screen note that is more detailed than a typical ScreenTip Fades and Dissolves - Blend on side seamlessly into the next slide File- A saved presentation Office Button – Central location for managing and sharing documents Fill Effects - Add pattern and texture to a background Font-typeface Format- Appearance of typed characters Format Painter – Allows you to cop all formatting to another object Gallery- Set of choices, often graphical, arranged in a grid or a list Home tab-Primary tab contains the more frequently used commands Key Tip Badge- Keyboard code icon Key tip- To select a command using the keyboard, press this displayed code letter Layout – Specifies the arrangement of placeholders on the slide Layout Gallery - Using the Layout Gallery, you can choose a slide layout Level- Position within a structure that indicates magnitude of importance Line Spacing- Amount of vertical space between the lines of text Line wraps- PowerPoint text that exceeds the width of the placeholder View- Mode in which the presentation appears on the screen Menu- Contains a list of commands My Collections – The media files you create are stored here Normal View- Default view allows you to work in three working areas simultaneously Office Collections – Contains all the media files included with Microsoft Office Office Theme- Default document theme Place Holders- Boxes with dotted borders that are displayed on new slides. Custom Dictionary- Allows you to add special words such as proper names and cities Point- 1/72 of an inch in height Slide-Basic unit of a PowerPoint presentation Pop-up Menu- Shortcut menu appears when you right-click a slide in Slide Show view Presentation- Also called a slide show Push and Cover – Appear to move one slide off the screen Quick Access Toolbar- Located above the Ribbon; provides access to frequently used commands Zooming- Reducing or enlarging the display of a worksheet Quick Styles – Defined combinations of formatting options Random – Use a pattern that changes each time you run the presentation Resizing – Enlarging or reducing the size of a clip are graphic Ribbon- control center in PowerPoint Scroll Box- Location of the slide in the document window Selection Rectangle - A selected graph appears surrounded by a _Selection Rectangle_ Shadow - Helps the letters display prominently by adding a shadow Shared Collections – Clips reside on a shared network file server Sizing Handles – Small Indicators are called Sizing Handles or move handles Slide Indicator-Shows the number and title of the slide you are about to display Slide Transition - Gently uncover one slide to reveal the next Stripes and Bars – Use blinds and checkerboard patterns Style- Indicates how the characters are formatted Task pane- Window that can remain open and visible while you work on the document Title Slide- Introduces the presentation to the audience Size- Specifies the height of the characters Submenu- List of additional commands associated with the selected command Vertical Scroll Bar- Use the vertical scroll bar to display different slides in the document window.
