Welcome to the Principles of Marketing, MRKG 1311, distance education class! I’d like to give you a little information about myself before starting the course. I have been teaching higher education since 1987. I originally started teaching Business at UH-D and then took a hiatus with a “dot.com” experience. I came back to teaching with HCCS in 2002 where I am currently the International Business Program Coordinator. I have both lived and worked in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for six years. During this time, I was able to travel extensively. In the summer of 2005, I was chosen as a Fulbright Fellow to visit China. In the summer of 2006, I attended the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii for a three week course focusing on Japan and China. I was also chosen to attend the Salzburg Global Seminar in Salzburg, Austria through HCC and would highly encourage all of you, as students, to apply for the Salzburg Seminar this coming spring as there are no costs for you. In 2010, I attended a MERCOSUR International Business study abroad in Chile, Brazil and Argentina. The Principles of Marketing class is an exciting course to be taking as the probabilities of working for a global company are great in today’s global economy! One of the top jobs in today’s economy is in Global Marketing. Through my classes, there are opportunities to meet professionals with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Assistance Center, the International Transportation Management Association (ITMA),The Houston Air Cargo Association (HACA), the Greater Houston Partnership and the Houston District Export Council for scholarships, internships, and extra curricular activities. Recommendations: I would highly recommend you find a partner or two (only 3 per group) to help do all your assignments and Marketing Plan project. Introduce yourself through EO2. All assignments are currently available for those of you interested in starting right away.
