BLANKNYC S/S ’15 Women’s Lookbook
BLANKNYC likes their denim stripped down and
lean. Since entering the scene in 2007 with their
very first hit, the Studded Skinnie Classique,
BLANKNYC has been creating obsessionworthy fits, fabrics and design details, season
after season.
Blank NYC has given
denim a new
explanation.and the brand's collection for
upcoming spring and summer ’15 is complete in
all aspects and covers the various popular
trends and styles.
Fringes, denim overalls and shortalls, or
boyfriend jeans, skinnies, straight leg and
shorts, the collection has them all. Lightening
print jacket, boyfriend jeans and more creative
elements offer more fun for spring. Their range of
ripped and patched jeans are very good.
The brand's aggressively modern take on denim
embraces DIY style, individuality, and a little
youthful rebellion. The BLANKNYC denim
revolution stands for quality, fit, and the integrity
of a premium jean, while maintaining a
completely affordable price point.

Killer jeans profit higher than
that of leading brands
Killer jeans, the flagship brand of Kewal Kiran
Clothing Ltd. (KKCL) is giving the market leader
Levi's a run for its money.
With a sales figure of almost Rs 400 crore, twothirds that of Levi's, KKCL the maker of Killer
jeans, makes almost as much profit as Levi's,
Benetton and Tommy Hilfiger put together.
"We have tried to keep our products affordable,
while at the same time tried to innovate and
adapt to the changing needs," says Mr.
Kewalchand Jain, who along with his three
brothers — Hemant, Dilip and Vikas — set up
their first denim brand 'Killer' in 1989.
He further adds "Most of the international
brands are urban-centric and have premium
pricing while small markets are highly
unorganized. We are trying to fill this void with
our products," The company has added brands
such as Lawman, Easies and Integriti.
The newer brands not only cater to different age
groups, but also bring economies of scale — the
company sold nearly 23 lakh pair of jeans last
fiscal, making it the market leader by volume.
The company also controls almost every bit of
operations — from design to a large chunk of
manufacturing — from three designing and
manufacturing facilities in Mumbai and Gujarat.
This in turn has helped the company price its
wares almost 30% cheaper than most rivals.
For instance, a pair of Killer jeans is sold for Rs
1,599 onwards, while most brands such as
Levi's, Jack & Jones and Wrangler have pricetags above Rs 2,500 on an average.

"It is a well-run company which has kept
operations pretty tight with an extremely low
working capital," said J Suresh, who heads
Arvind Retail that sells rival brands such as
Arrow, Flying Machine and US Polo.
Despite a low-pricing strategy, the company
clocked Rs 67 crore in net profit with an
operating margin of 29%. And it is this margin
focus that has helped KKCL shares to trade at a
record high earlier this month at Rs 2,140.

Blaak Launching Healing Jeans
With Lapis Lazuli crystals
After raw denim, selvedge
denim, stretch denim, the
newest addition to the world
of jeans is definitely
unexpected: crystals.
British denim brand Blaak,
originally launched in 1998,
is back on the market with
three new men’s styles
featuring lapis lazuli crystal.
The stone is embedded in
the print of the jeans on the
pockets using a specially
developed, permanent
titanium mineral matrix.
There is also a crystal disc
woven into the pants—both
inclusions of the crystal are
intended to restore the
energy fields of the wearer.
According to Aaron Sharif,
cofounder Lapis lazuli
makes one feel more
grounded and these stones
don’t break in the washing
machine, unlike other
healing crystals such as
coral.
Aaron Sharif, cofounder explained “We started
with lapis lazuli because it opens up your
communication and it allows for you to find your
true purpose in life. It’s a confidence builder.”
To Sharif, the decision to include crystals in
denim was both personal and practical. After
taking an interest in crystal healing, he wanted
to find ways to incorporate his interest into his
design but also bring something new to the
market. “If you’re going to do denim, what’s the
point of doing another denim brand? It has to
have something special about it,” he said.
The process of figuring out how to work crystals
into denim took about two years to perfect, and
Sharif hopes people form lasting relationships
with their spiritual jeans. “It’s like a relationship

when you buy denim,” Sharif began, adding
“People have a specific type of denim that they’re
into, and it creates a fingerprint over time. The
line was purposely done with denim because
denim for me is fashionable because of what you
make it.”
Lapis Lazuli is one of the most sought after
stones for healing and is perfect for clearing
away emotional baggage. A universal symbol of
wisdom and truth, Lapis is also used for skin
conditions, insomnia and even to improve
memory.
At the moment, the crystal-adorned jeans are for
men only in three washes—indigo, black, and
over-dyed black—and retailing for £250 on the
brand’s e-commerce site launching in May and at
select international retailers.

such as leather, metal and
wood are used throughout,
