Page 4 MNHS Mustang CLASS SCHEDULE CHANGES Over 2450 students have been scheduled for the upcoming school year. The class schedule you will receive during fall orientation is based upon the availability of the courses you selected during registration. Please see your counselor if there is an error. Class schedules are not subject to change in terms of courses selected or class periods scheduled. Students may not select teachers and must schedule other outside commitments around their assigned class schedule. It is imperative that we have everyone’s cooperation in this matter as we begin the 2014-15 school year. TRANSPORTATION Student Transportation of Nebraska, Inc. (STN) will provide Millard Public School students who do not qualify for district provided transportation with a parent pay busing program. The form can be found on the Millard Public Schools website under Student Services/Transportation. REPORTING OF STUDENT ABSENCES/ATTENDANCE Whenever a student is not in school or must leave school, a parent or guardian must call the Attendance Office at 715 – 1223. Please call the morning of the absence between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., stating the reason for the absence. Millard North will call all unverified absences after 10:00 a.m. each day. Because of the large number of absences certain days, many times we cannot complete the calling of every absence. Therefore, to help better communicate absences to parents, we now use an electronic phone messenger system for those absences left unverified at the end of the day. When a student is absent several days, we ask parents to call each day his or her son or daughter is or will be absent unless other arrangements have been made with the Attendance Office. A phone call is adequate communication for the student’s return to school. If parent/guardian has called, his/or child does not need to report to the office. Parents/guardians must call to excuse an absence within one (1) school day immediately following the absence. Should a call be received after this period of time, the absence will be considered an unexcused absence. No notes will be accepted by the office to excuse an absence or tardy. If a student is ill and absent from school for five (5) consecutive days, a medical doctor’s verification may be required for admittance. Please read the attendance policies in the MNHS Student Handbook for more information. Page 5 MNHS Mustang SCHOOL DAY SCHEDULES FOR 2014-15 Each Monday morning during the school year, all high school teachers from the three Millard high schools will meet in course teams called Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). These Monday morning meetings take place for one hour from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Due to PLCs each Monday, classes for students will begin at 8:45 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m. School doors will open at the usual time, providing students who choose, or need to arrive at school earlier access to computers, the Information Center, and the Guidance Center to meet with counselors. Students will be able to purchase breakfast and meet with friends before classes begin at 8:45 a.m. Monday mornings. The bell will ring at 8:38 a.m. each Monday morning, signaling students to proceed to their 1st period classes. Tuesday through Friday of each week, classes will begin at 8:00 a.m. School will dismiss each day, Monday through Friday, at 3:15 p.m. Zero hour classes meet Tuesday through Friday, and 8th hour classes meet Monday through Friday. Millard North High School will be using two different bell schedules throughout the school year, one for Monday, with the late start at 8:45 a.m. and Mustang Time advisement between 5 th and 6th periods, and one for Tuesday through Friday, with school beginning at 8:00 a.m. The two bell schedules are found below. Again, school will be dismissed at 3:15 p.m. each day of the week. As stated earlier, teachers will meet in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) first thing each Monday morning to improve achievement and learning for all students at Millard North High School. Millard North’s goal is to create a high performing learning culture focusing on results, consistent improvement, and collaboration. Teachers are the key component to accomplishing improved student learning. They need time, support, and data to achieve this goal. PLCs help set high expectations for student learning and build systems of support to address students’ needs in a timely fashion. Through the collaborative efforts of teachers working and learning together in PLCs, student learning and achievement will continue to improve.
