Vice President,
North America Manufacturing
Team,
What an exciting month October will be! In addition to
expanding our product lineup, we are significantly increasing
our workforce.
I am proud to update that Ford has exceeded its UAW
commitment of creating 12,000 U.S. hourly jobs by 2015 and
has hired more than 14,000 new hourly workers since 2011.
The goal was reached as Kansas City Assembly Plant adds
1,200 new jobs and a second shift to meet growing demand
for the all-new Ford Transit. We also are experiencing job
growth throughout North America as Ford of Canada adds
1,000 new jobs to Oakville Assembly Plant to support global
Ford Edge production.
Our 2014 launch schedule is progressing as planned. To
date, we have successfully launched the upgraded Ford
Expedition, Ford Super Duty and Lincoln Navigator at
Kentucky Truck Plant, the all-new Ford Transit at Kansas
City Assembly Plant, the Lincoln MKC at Louisville Assembly
Plant and the all-new Ford Mustang at Flat Rock Assembly
Plant. Later this year, we look forward to the new Ford Focus
at Michigan Assembly Plant and, of course, the biggest
launch in Ford’s history with the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 at
Dearborn Truck Plant.
As you are well aware, 2014 is the most aggressive launch
year for Ford in more than a century. With this immense
undertaking, it is vital that we deliver best-in-class products,
built to the highest quality and standards, to our customers
the first time around.
Additionally, Oct. 1 marked the kickoff of another United
Way campaign, which runs through the end of the month.
Since the organization was founded in 1949, Ford has
donated more than any other corporation, staying true to
Henry Ford’s view that “The only foundation of real business
is service.” I encourage everyone to get involved.
Our success today proves that when there is teamwork
and collaboration, a competitive advantage can be achieved.
Let’s continue the momentum together.
Thank you,
Bruce

FORD EXPLORER SPORT ATTRACTING
YOUNGER, MORE AFFLUENT CUSTOMERS
Since its launch in September 2012, the 365-horsepower, twinturbocharged Ford Explorer Sport is proving it’s capable of far more than
hauling families. Research suggests Explorer Sport also is hauling younger,
more affluent, better educated buyers into Ford showrooms. Nearly onequarter of Explorer Sport customers are less than 35 years old, while
54 percent are 44 and younger, according to the Maritz Research New
Vehicle Customer Study. Explorer Sport customers also tend to be more
affluent, with 40 percent earning more than $150,000 a year.

September U.S. Sales Results
If you’ve been reading this
column the last couple of
months you know that we’ve
been in a period of transition as
we scale back on daily rental
sales and carefully manage our
inventory of Ford F-Series trucks
during the changeover from the
2014 to the all-new 2015 model.
This month was not unlike
others that we have experienced
in the past.
Ford’s overall U.S. sales
were down three percent from
last year. It doesn’t look that
encouraging, if we only look at
the headline. But, with all of
our transitions on Ford F-150,
Ford Transit and Ford Mustang
occurring right now, it’s a solid
accomplishment.
Ford’s standout vehicle
for September has to be the
Ford Fusion, which posted its
best September sales ever, its
fifth straight month of record
performance and best yearto-date sales results since it
launched in 2005.
What’s great about the Fusion
is that it is breaking ground for
Ford in really big markets, as well
as in states like California where
Ford has been underrepresented
in the past.
We began shipping our allnew 2015 Ford Mustang last
month and recorded our first
2015 model year Mustang sale
at the very end of September.
I personally can’t wait to
begin racking up the numbers
for Mustang.
Stay focused on the prize.
Keep up the great work.

Business
Investor Day 2014:
Fields presents 2020 vision
Ford Motor Company outlined its
2020 vision during its annual
Investor Day Conference on
Sept. 29. The 2020 vision includes
plans to substantially increase global
vehicle sales and automotive operating
margin and achieve more balanced
geographic profitability.
The presentation highlighted key
aspects of the business including
meeting customer demand, Lincoln
sales as the brand expands in China,
the 2014 outlook, the 2015 outlook and
a review of risk factors. Main points
from each of these segments are
summarized below.
Ultimately, by 2020, Ford projects
annual global sales to increase 45 to 55
percent to approximately 9.4 million.
Its automotive operating margin
is projected to improve to about 8
percent during the same period, with a
long-term target of 8 percent to
9 percent.
“Our long-term plan underscores
the commitment we have to our
One Ford plan, while accelerating
our pace of progress, delivering
product excellence and driving
innovation in all areas of our
business,” said Mark Fields, Ford
president and CEO. “We remain
completely focused on offering
customers the freshest lineup of
world-class vehicles to meet
their needs.”

2014 Outlook
• The company is on plan to launch a record
23 vehicles
• As a result of higher warranty costs, including recalls,
in North America – mainly for prior year models –
and lower industry volume and weakening conditions
in South America and Russia, Ford now expects its

2015 Outlook
• In 2015, Ford expects to realize the benefits of its
global product investment and growth strategies,
and will continue its strong product push with
16 global vehicle launches
• The company expects its pre-tax profit, excluding
special items, to be significantly higher – in the $8.5
billion to $9.5 billion range – with all five automotive
regions improving on 2014 results

United Way Torch Drive kickoff
A trio of southeast Michigan plants
recently helped launch Ford Motor
Company’s 2014 U.S. United Way Torch
Drive. Ford is partnering with the United
Auto Workers (UAW) on the annual
employee fundraising campaign,
which runs through October.
More than 150 employees from
Flat Rock Assembly Plant, Michigan
Assembly Plant and Van Dyke
Transmission Plant participated in
the kickoff activities, which featured
remarks from the Ford and UAW Torch
Drive co-chairmen Bernard Silverstone
and Jimmy Settles; plant and local
union leadership; and executives from
the Ford Fund and the United Way.
“There are people in need in the
communities where we live and work,
and the Ford team – the longtime
leaders in automotive giving to the
United Way nationwide – is contributing
to the solution,” said Bernard
Silverstone, chairman and a
Ford group vice president, Ford Motor
Credit Company. “We gave more than
$7.3 million to United Way last year, and
we know we can Go Further in 2014.”
The work of the United Way focuses
on a targeted set of initiatives:
• Education: To help children and
youths succeed in school
• Financial stability: To give
everyone the opportunity to
achieve financial well-being

Ford’s United Way Torch Drive
supports multiple charitable agencies
through a single fundraising activity.
Money that is raised in its U.S.
campaign is routed to United Way
agencies around the country based on
the contributing employees’ locations.
“Our contributions to the United
Way help make people’s lives better,
and the people we help may be our
friends, family, neighbors or even our
co-workers,” said Jimmy Settles, UAW
vice president and director. “The UAW
and Ford share a proud history of
supporting the United Way that dates
back to 1949 – in fact, we started
the Torch Drive together – and our
commitment remains strong.”

U.S. hourly
Pulse survey
results
For the third year, U.S. hourly
employees had the opportunity
to take part in the company’s
annual Pulse survey.
The Pulse survey is important
because it helps the company
learn about and understand
issues and concerns that
employees may have. It also
acts as a basis for developing
initiatives to improve how
employees achieve the One Ford
plan by working together as a
skilled and motivated team.
The Pulse gives employees the
opportunity to voice their opinions
about relationships, the work
environment and other important
topics such as Safety, Quality and
Communications.
The survey consisted of 26
multiple-choice questions and
was open from Apr. 14 to May
23. Plant and facility locations
receiving feedback from at least
five respondents received a
report with the results for their
respective location.
Overall the Employee
Satisfaction Index (ESI) for total
operations improved to almost
43 percent, up from 36 percent
in 2012. The ESI represents the
results of eight questions within
the survey and allows Ford to
compare itself to other large
corporations like Boeing, Best Buy,
Johnson & Johnson and Microsoft.
This survey allows the
company to look internally at
manufacturing facilities around
the globe.

Manufacturing
Product Launches Improving
for Ford and Lincoln
By Chris Rahi Kassab
It is a pivotal year for Ford as it
continues with the most aggressive
product cadence in company
history, and the top priority is to
launch each and every Ford and
Lincoln vehicle with top quality.
While every launch has its
challenges, Bruce Hettle, vice
president, North America
Manufacturing, applauds the
manufacturing team for their
dedication.
“Everybody involved in our
launches is bringing their best to
the job every day,” he said.
For example, Hettle gives a “thumbs
up” to the teams responsible for two of
the largest launches completed earlier
this year: the 2015 Ford Super Duty and
the all-new 2015 Lincoln MKC.
“We had some difficult launches,
primarily in 2012, and we struggled
a little bit. As an organization we
really dove deep, examined lessons
learned and put the business practice
adjustments in place to launch more
effectively and in turn give our dealers
and customers vehicles at higher
quality levels right from the start,” he
said. “Early external quality data for
both Super Duty and MKC shows that
we have greatly improved.”
John Savona, director of
Manufacturing, Ford North America,
said the 2015 Super Duty launched
at “best levels ever,” based on
Zero Months in Service (0MIS)
warranty data. When asked what
he thought made the launch
successful, he pointed to the
cohesiveness of the team at the
Kentucky Truck Plant (KTP).
“The relationship between the
salaried workforce, the hourly
workforce and the engineering
team is outstanding,” he said.
“They have the ability to focus
on issues and not worry about
ownership of the problem. That team
dynamic really lends itself to faster
problem resolution and immediate
containment of a concern.”
Matt O’Leary, vehicle line director,
North America Trucks, said the
team really pulled together to
meet several challenges.
“We developed actions to improve
cold-weather customer issues and
added plant drives to identify and
resolve any concerns that came up,” he
said. “At the same time, the team had
to overcome the multiple challenges
that come with launch and still meet
our commitment to reach ‘ok to buy’
and ship vehicles to customers by the
end of the first quarter.”
According to Scott Tobin, director,
Lincoln Product Development, 0MIS
warranty data for the all-new Lincoln
MKC is 55 percent better than it was
for the Lincoln MKZ.
Tobin said one factor that
contributed to a more
successful launch was
upfront implementation
of the Luxury Validation
Center (LVC), a special moving line –
exclusive to Lincoln – that was added
to the Louisville Assembly Plant (LAP)
to perform added checks on premium
elements of vehicles after they come
off the assembly line.
“The LVC goes the extra mile to
ensure that we are delivering luxury
expectations for exterior and interior
craftsmanship,” he said.
Additional quality checks were
performed after the vehicles left LAP.
“Our field representatives inspected
the first 100 vehicles looking for any
issues, and after they reached the
dealerships they went through another
90-point inspection,” said Tobin. “So
we really doubled down to make sure
that each vehicle was one that we
could be proud of – and it worked.
We’re really excited with the results
and it shows with satisfied customers.”
Luxury Validation Center lines have
been added across all Lincoln plants

Manufacturing
Ford exceeds UAW
job commitment
with second shift
for Transit van
By Amanda Wilhite
Ford Motor Company announced the
addition of a second shift at Kansas
City Assembly Plant (KCAP) to meet
demand for the all-new Ford Transit
van. The announcement adds 1,200
jobs to the plant for a new grand total
of more than 6,000 employees.
Ford has added jobs across its other
U.S. manufacturing plants as well, for
a total of 14,000 jobs, exceeding the
goal of creating 12,000 hourly jobs in
the United States by 2015.
The KCAP announcement comes
on the heels of Ford’s U.S. $1.1
billion investment in 2011, which
upgraded the plant and built an
on-site integrated stamping facility
to produce parts for the new North
American vehicle.
A new offering in the commercial
automotive sector, the Transit is yet
another Built Ford Tough vehicle that,
since hitting the market, is proving
to be a sought-after, customizable
product for fleet consumers.
Cameron Pennington, team leader
in Transit Chassis-Zone 1, is new to
the Transit line, recently transitioning
from the motor line on the Ford F-150.
“I can tell we have grown with Transit
Joe Hinrichs, president, The Americas, and
Governor Jay Nixon (D-MO) showing Transit pride.
because when I came in on C shift
for truck, I’d look at the board and
notice we were only producing in
the 100 numbers or so, but since
I’ve been here, we’ve reached
substantially more than 200,”
said Pennington.
With volumes up new employees
are joining the One Ford family on a
weekly basis. Gwen Ford, a new hire
and multimedia display operator on
the Instrument Panel (IP) line, says,
“Production has increased and I’m
glad to see the second shift. I believe
we’re expanding and that this is going
to be a good thing for Ford, a boost to
the economy and a benefit all the
way around.”
Standing in front of the giant press
in KCAP’s Integrated Stamping Facility,
Governor Jay Nixon (D-MO) applauded
the announcement of the job growth
and praised the people responsible for
building the new vans.
“As governor of this state, it is really
no surprise that the world wants to
buy what Missourians build,” said
Nixon. “Since those four tires of the
first Ford Transit hit the road, last
month’s sales surged 22 percent.”
UAW Vice President Jimmy Settles addresses the crowd.

KCAP will get a second shift and
add 1,200 to meet demand for
the all-new Ford Transit.
Proud of the job growth, Nixon
added, “At the end of the year,
6,000 workers – exceptionally
skilled, exceptionally hardworking,
competitive workers – are going to be
building these trucks right here. This
is another tremendous milestone for
our state’s economy and the American
auto industry.”
Joe Hinrichs, president, The
Americas, expressed his pride in KCAP
and the sense of accomplishment
the company has felt in getting the
new vehicle off the ground. “Transit
Job #1 was a great milestone for this
plant,” said Hinrichs. “Based on this
positive momentum and acceptance
in the marketplace, Transit is clearly
off to an incredible start. And thanks
to all of the hardworking men and
women in Kansas City, we’re bringing a
refreshed Built Ford Tough attitude to
our commercial customers.”
“It truly is an honor to be a part
of the organization here and all of
the excitement and challenges and
everything that we’ve done, the
sacrifices that our people have made
for all of the growth and development
which led to the successes here
today,” KCAP Manager Dan Jowiski.
“We are up to the challenge we’ve
been given and we are ready for it.”

Ford of Canada to
fill 1,000 new jobs at
Oakville Assembly
Ford Motor Company of Canada,
Limited’s Oakville Assembly Plant
will add more than 1,000 hourly jobs
as it ramps up its transformation into
one of Canada’s most competitive
and advanced global manufacturing
plants. Oakville Assembly will expand
capabilities with new jobs added
across the plant.
“The new 2015 Ford Edge sets a new
standard in its class and will show
countries around the world Canadian
quality at its best,” said Joe Hinrichs,
president, The Americas. “New jobs at
Oakville Assembly will strengthen our
investment in Canada and increase our
capabilities as we gear up for one of
the most anticipated launches at Ford.”
Added Dianne Craig, president and
CEO, Ford of Canada, “Investment
in auto manufacturing pays off, and
Oakville Assembly is proof of that.
Not only is the investment helping us
meet much-needed capacity for high
demand products produced in Canada,
it’s creating jobs. It is a proud time at

employees to our team.”
In 2013, the company announced a
CA$700 million investment to convert
Oakville Assembly into an advanced
global manufacturing facility helping
to meet growing demand in North
America and around the world by
producing vehicles with best-in-class
quality, fuel efficiency, smart design

New Paystub Online password update process
Accessing paystubs online just got
easier thanks to revised procedures
that took effect July 28, 2014.
Hourly employees now can take
advantage of Paystub Online features
from the convenience of their home
without having to contact the Help
Desk for a password reset. The
changes come as part of the 2011
contract negotiations.
“Paystub Online is a very helpful
tool,” said John Wright, manager,
Arbitration and Wage Administration.
“It is of course important for everyone
to manage their unique password
to Paystub Online in order to
maintain the security of their
information.
These recent
enhancements
will make it much
easier for employees
to manage
their password.”
1. You must first register
In order to manage your password from the Internet you
must first register with the Ford “Account Management”
site from the Internet (not from a plant kiosk). This onetime registration process should take approximately three
to five minutes to complete. At this site you will be asked
to do the following:
• Create a user profile
• Select challenge questions
•Provide answers to challenge questions
2. Make sure your password has not expired
The password you use to access Paystub Online
must be reset every 90 days. This is a company
requirement for all employees using any application(s)
The process is simple, and requires
just a few steps. The information below

From Our Plants
Ford family teams up to
make child’s birthday
wish come true
When Lima Engine Plant (LEP) Assembly Tech Kaye
Donovan asked her 12-year-old grandson, Timothy,
what he wanted for his birthday she didn’t exactly
get a typical response.
Born with VACTERL, a condition that causes a
number of neurological defects and other issues,
doctors advised the family after Timothy was born
that he probably wouldn’t make it through the night.
Timothy had other things in mind, though. Twelve
years and 24 surgeries later, he’s an energetic,
compassionate and civic-minded young man. What
Timothy wanted
for his birthday
was a wheelchair,
but not for himself.
Rather, he wanted to
provide a wheelchair
to another child
in need.
With help from
his family, Timothy
began a fundraising
drive with a goal of
raising U.S. $3,600,
enough to fund
the purchase of
12 wheelchairs,
one for each of his
12 years of life.
As of Sept. 29,
Timothy had raised
more than $5,200
and donations are still coming in from people who are
extremely moved by the efforts of this young man.
Those interested in donating or reading more about
Timothy’s story can visit http://www.gofundme.

UAW-Ford collaboration
showcases competitive
products and simulated
factory at Kentucky State Fair
The UAW and Ford
were on hand at
the Kentucky State
Fair this year to
showcase the
vehicles made at their
Kentucky facilities,
along with a simulated
factory experience.
UAW Local 862 and Ford,
Educational Exhibit Sponsors,
were on hand from Aug. 14
through Aug. 24 and represented
by Louisville Assembly Plant
(LAP) in the North Wing lobby of
the fair and Kentucky Truck Plant
(KTP) in the South Wing.
LAP showcased the Ford Escape and the allnew Lincoln MKC. KTP’s display featured the Ford
Expedition, Ford Super Duty, Lincoln Navigator, in
addition to community-oriented projects such as
the UAW-Ford Wheelchair Ramp building program.
Fair-goers also were given a state-of-the-art robotics
demonstration.
The simulated factory, initially developed at LAP, has
been so successful, it is now considered Ford’s global
standard and company-wide best practice, and has
been rolled out to other plants worldwide. In a training
environment, the simulated factory provides workers
with a much smoother transition to the assembly
line, and the net benefit to the company is improved
quality. At the Kentucky State Fair, the simulated
factory helped others understand how the assembly
line process functions and what UAW-Ford employees
do on a regular basis.
It is estimated that approximately 14,000 people
visited the Ford exhibits.

Regular prostate screenings
save lives every day
According to the Prostate Cancer
Foundation, 1 in 6 men are affected by
prostate cancer in the U.S. This makes
it the most common cancer in America
after skin cancer.
This year, an estimated 238,000
men will be diagnosed with the
disease – many with almost no
symptoms – and 30,000 men will lose
their lives to it.
Eating well and exercising to keep
your weight healthy is one major way
you can improve your chances of
avoiding disease, but there’s only
one way to know without a doubt
that you are cancer-free: regular
cancer screenings.
If detected early enough, the cure
rate for prostate cancer is close to 100
percent. However, because many men
with prostate cancer don’t develop
symptoms until the disease is very
advanced, every 18 minutes another
American man dies from prostate
cancer. That’s a little more than
UAW - Ford to offer
long-term disability
80 deaths per day and 29,480 so far
this year.
Yearly screenings should become a
habit, especially among those at high
risk for the disease. Those at risk are
African-American men; men who live
in northern climates (and therefore get
less Vitamin D from reduced sun in the
winter); or men who have a history of
prostate cancer in their family.
Unfortunately, the sad fact is most
men don’t get regular checkups –
unless urged by a loved one.
Partners, wives and children play a
critical role simply by reminding the
men in their family that annual checks
yield results – most men who are
diagnosed at an early stage will be
disease-free after five years.

Drive Smarter with the 2015 F-150
When the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 has its day in
the sun, it will be better prepared than ever for
damaging rays both inside and out, thanks to extensive
glare and fade testing.
Much of the glare and fade testing was performed
in the company’s Central Lab, where Ford engineers
focus on making individual parts stronger and more
durable. A device known as a Thermatron simulates
damaging UV sunrays, and can be used over long
periods of time on prototype parts to help identify
the best design for production.
Antiglare testing took place in the Visual
Performance Evaluation Lab, also known as the
Ford lighting lab. The facility can replicate almost
any sunlight conditions from dawn to dusk, as
well as changes to natural light caused by
weather conditions.

Thank you,
Bruce

Ford of Canada
represents at the Terry
Fox Run in Oakville
It was a beautiful day for a run
along the lakeshore of downtown
Oakville, Ontario, on Sunday, Sept. 14.
Captained by Dianne Craig, president
and CEO, Ford Motor Company of
Canada Ltd., Team Ford Canada was
represented at the annual Oakville
Terry Fox Run by members of the
Oakville Assembly Plant, Ford Credit
and Ford of Canada head office.
The Oakville Terry Fox Run
gathers about 1,000 members of
the community each year to raise
money for the Terry Fox Foundation.
Pam Damoff, Ward 2 town councillor
in Oakville led this year’s run which
raised a record CA$125,000.
To help rally Team Ford Canada
and the rest of the runners, Craig was
invited to cheer on the participants
and share a few words about Ford’s
long history with Terry Fox and the
Marathon of Hope.
Damoff thanked Craig and Ford
for their dedication over the years.
Damoff told the run participants the
story of Terry Fox – that on Apr. 12,
1980, he dipped his artificial right leg
into the Atlantic Ocean near St. John’s,
Newfoundland, to begin his remarkable
run to raise money and awareness
for cancer research. Terry Fox was
followed on his inspiring journey
by his home on
wheels, a Ford van.
Craig thanked
Damoff and echoed
the pride that
Ford shares. “I am

Ford of Canada
brings local schools
to Driving Skills for Life
We all have decisions to make.
That’s the message we hope
participants took away from the
Ford Driving Skills for Life program.
Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd.
hosted a Driving Skills for Life (DSFL)
event for local high schools, as well
as Ford of Canada employees and
their teens, at the Powerade Centre
in Brampton, Ontario. The two-day
program ran Sept. 24-25. This was
the first time Ford’s award-winning
novice driver education program was
hosted in the Greater Toronto Area.
DSFL is a no-cost, comprehensive
program designed to make newlylicensed drivers safer on the roads,
and to give parents the resources
they need
to help
their teens
gain some
important
skills. Now
a global
program,
DSFL was established in 2003 to
teach newly-licensed teens the
necessary skills for safe driving,
beyond what they learn in standard
driver education programs.
“Safety is a priority for Ford,”
Caroline Hughes, vice president,
Government Relations, explains.
16 | October 2014
“The DSFL
program
allows drivers
to develop
skills that will
help them to
make safe
and responsible
decisions in
real-world
situations.”
Students from Philip Pocock
Catholic Secondary School,
Sheridan College, Joan of Arc
Secondary School and North Park
Secondary School were invited for
half-day sessions where they had
the opportunity to improve their
skills in five key areas that are critical
factors in vehicle crashes. Ford of
Canada employees also had the
opportunity to participate with their
teens, many who were brand new to
driving. Safety is a priority of Ford,
and the DSFL program helps educate
drivers to make the roads safer.
Five key areas that are critical
factors in vehicle crashes:
1. Hazard Recognition
2. Vehicle Handling
3. Speed Management
4. Space Management
5. D
istracted and
Impaired Driving
Students commented that the
simulated examples were very
realistic. The opportunity to get
behind the wheel with an instructor
gave participants more confidence
that they will make the right decisions
when it comes to driving in the future.
