Mass Etiquette Please respect the books and handouts in the pews. They are there to help us enter into prayer through song and following the liturgy, and to provide information to help us find ways to be involved in parish life and grow in our faith. When they are written on, ripped, or crinkled, they can no longer be used. Red Cross Blood Drive The Red Cross Blood Drive is today, Oct. 11th, 8:00am1:00pm in the Social Hall. Please stop by. Priesthood Sunday, Oct. 25th Consider making a card or giving a small token of appreciation to our dedicated priests. It’s crowded and late. The people are tired, sore, and hungry. But the crowd is energized with an electric joy. It’s the Festival of Families and Pope Francis is there. But let’s start at the beginning of the journey. Early on Sept. 24th, St. Brendan’s youth ministers Amanda Brice and Nicole Stone drove to Philadelphia with Love and Serve Atlanta and Regnum Christi to serve the needy of Philly and to see the Pope. “The whole trip was a blessing,” said Amanda who didn’t think she would be able to attend. Nicole whole heartedly agreed. One highlight of the trip was attending the Festival of Families. Pope Francis spoke of the truth, goodness, and beauty of God and of families. He emphasized that God sent his son into a family and a family is truly a family when they open their arms to receive this love. “All of Pope Francis’s words were amazing,” Amanda said. “I realized all the people around me are my brothers and sisters in Christ.” Nicole said, “His words touched me because they told the story of who we are. I experienced a surge of love for all the people of the world and a desire to build peace and unity with everyone I meet.” A second highlight was the chance to put Pope Francis’ words in action: missions. “Sometimes it pushed me out of my comfort zone,” Amanda said, but she realized, “it is the small things that make the difference.” Nicole said the missions reminded her that “every human being, even if they seem to have it all together, is thirsting for God and for love.” It struck her how moved people were just by the smallest acts of kindness. In the closing Mass, Pope Francis encouraged these small acts saying “Jesus tells us not to hold back these little miracles. Instead, he wants us to encourage them, to spread them. He asks us to go through life, our everyday life, encouraging all these little signs of love as signs of his own living and active presence in our world.” “Pope Francis supersedes any political party or label,” Nicole said. “He is the vicar of Christ and he came to the U.S. to point us to God.” Pastoral Staff Rev. GRACE Scholars was founded to award scholarships to students who wish to attend Georgia Catholic Schools. According to the SSO/tax credit legislation, taxpayers may redirect part of their Georgia income taxes to GRACE. GRACE then awards scholarships to students whose families demonstrate financial need. The goal is to secure a quality Pre-K -12 Catholic education. Since the foundation in 2008, more than 3,000 taxpayers have participated in the program. The GRACE board allocates funds to the school designated by the donor. Schools eligible to receive funds include GRACE schools and independent Catholic schools. This includes Pinecrest Academy. A donor may choose up to 3 designations by listing the amount desired for each entity. If a designated school's needs are met, the board may transfer funds to another school. This is in compliance with the state law regarding the annual distribution of funds. If there is no designation, funds will go to the schools with the greatest need.
