Qualifications and Funding:
Further Information:
Funding has been made available for the iam Introductory Award in
Administrative Management.  Subsequent courses will have to be funded by
individuals, Standard Learning Credits (SLCs) or Enhanced Learning Credits
(ELCs) which in the main contribute up to 80% of the cost of the courses. (May
be used for elective and grandfather rights applicants)?
The iam is an internationally accepted professional body that
specialises in developing and recognising expertise, knowledge
and professional skills in Administrative Management. Full details
of the institute, its awards and the benefits of membership can
be found at
www.instam.org.
On completion of the Service Initial Personnel Administration Course (SIPAC)
the iam Introductory Award in Management is made, this is a Qualifications
and Credits Framework (QCF) Level 2 award, roughly equivalent to a GCSE
Grade A – C.  This qualification requires no additional work by the individual
and is at no cost to them. Level 2 awards are the main thrust for Army-wide
funding. The ITQ Apprenticeship is also awarded upon successful completion
of Phase 2 trade training and roughly equates to 5 GCSE’s.

Subsequently, each progressive career course brings with it a more advanced
qualification, graded against the QCF at levels 3 – 5, which will require
additional work to be carried out during the course or as distance learning.
This must be self funded. Retrospective awards (grandfather rights) must also
be self funded SLCs and ultimately ELCs may be used for the BA(Hons).  The
additional work involved and the associated costs where appropriate are as

(CMI) and Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) awards.
Accreditation through the iam is the main avenue to the SPS WLD Strategy
which all ranks are directed to follow. Gaining these qualifications will be
one measure of an individual’s performance and commitment. In return the
Branch will offer career-long support in personal development.
With the exception of the ITQ apprenticeship and the iam Introductory
award the completion of accredited qualifications is entirely voluntary. Whilst
accreditation is endorsed by the Branch as Core Qualifications, it remains the
responsibility of individuals to progress towards the highest award that they
can achieve. Personal career ownership harnessed to a desire for professional
excellence are qualities to be sought out, encouraged and recognised.
It is an Army-wide aspiration to have civilian qualifications incorporated into
the requirements for military assignments.
