Improved Animal Management (IAM) and Sustainable Organic Agriculture
(SOA) Assistant Trainer
1. Purpose of the job
To ensure development of improved animal management (IAM) and sustainable organic
(low input) agriculture (SOA) of smallholder farmers to the required standard of Send a
Cow at Project Implementing Partners (PIPs) and direct project implementation levels in
line with SAC’s Cornerstones and Christian Values.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1.To Ensure a good level of awareness and clear understanding of the importance of
improved animal management and sustainable organic (low input) agriculture is
created at SAC and PIPs staff and beneficiary community level
2.2. To ensure development of IAM and SOA action plan with a corresponding budget
and make close follow up of its timely and proper implementation at PIPs and direct
project implementation level
2.3. To ensure knowledge and skills on IAM and SOA become part of the practical life of
the project beneficiaries (smallholder farmers) and their community at large for a
greater contribution to food and livelihood security in a sustainable manner.
2.4. To ensure timely and quality implementation of the planned activities through
frequent field visits and delivery of necessary technical backup in line with animal
feed, shed, health, and organic farming with vegetable and fruit production in an
environmentally sound manner.
2.5. To ensure learning from practice and improve IAM and SOA activities through
integration of innovative ideas in a cost effective way which is acceptable and
affordable to the project beneficiaries (smallholder farmers).
2.6.To play full and active role in assisting project implementation, ME and beneficiary
training and development of farmer trainers to a required standard
2.7.Undertake other assignments and delegations given by the NRM and IAM Trainer
and Country Director in the interest of the organization to deliver quality programme
and make a wider impacts of Send a Cow in the country

Experience

BSc in Agriculture, Animal Science, Plant
Science, Agricultural Extension, or other
related fields
Three years’ of relevant experience of
community development
Experience of gender sensitive planning for
Livestock management and Smallerholder
Agriculture development
Experience of project monitoring at field
level and quality report writing
Skills and Abilities
Experience of learning from practice
through project monitoring and reviewing
Skills in project planning, budgeting and
management
