Jack Behrens
Lot #1
Composer
Mr. Behrens has received commissions from
the Canada Council, the Ontario Arts Council
and the CBC. He is a featured composer and
pianist on several record labels and the subject
of the recent publication Death of the Author
– A Tribute (Aspects of Postmodernism in
Jack Behrens’s Homages for Piano Solo) by
Dr. Baciu. He has taken considerable time to
construct this original composition in tribute to
fellow composer John Cage. If you look closely
at his submission Behrens has included an
abbreviated crossword in his work. This one-of
–kind piece will serve as a true collector’s item
for musician or music lover. Ask him nicely and
Steve Holowitz may play it for you.

Paul has spent most of his life in the
newspaper business. He first worked
in Kitchener-Waterloo and then for

had some formal training. When asked
how and where he learned his craft he
is reluctant to reveal any clues. Ask him
yourself. Maybe he’ll tell you more.

Susan Carlyle
Lot #5
Board of Directors, The ARTS Project
Art is a proud member of The ARTS
Project board of directors. He is regarded
as a developer with creative solutions
for old and new property. Art’s love of
the arts is obvious in the way he lives
his life. As a music hound he played
professionally with Rocky and the
Buzzards, the Rudy Davis Band and other
notorious musicians. He recently put his
drum kit back together and he’s back in
the swing. He has also been taking lessons
in painting with oils and has a modest
collection of carefully chosen pieces. Who
knows? He might be famous someday.
Susan works as a lawyer in London.
She became a lawyer because she quickly
realized that in order to have good art she
was going to have to buy it. This piece
is one of two that she completed for
consideration, her first work since 1977
when she attended Beal Art. She studied
for one year and was taught painting by
Tony Jeffries. Mr. Jeffries said that he
liked her work but he preferred peculiar
things. Based on his critique Susan
quickly left for university. This piece
suggests that the flame still burns brightly.

Wei Chen
Lot #7
Radio personality, CBC Radio
Ms. Chen broadcast her morning show
on CBC Radio 1 live from The ARTS
Project last fall. She loved the experience
and the space. When asked for a piece for
Artrageous she quickly agreed. Here are
her comments:
“The inspiration for this piece is my love
of food and abstract art. The pigments
used are organic--in fact, they’re edible-turmeric, tandoori spices, cinnamon and
coffee. I used a pastry brush to paint it.
Staying with the food theme, I’d like to
call it Turkish Delight.”

Claims she hasn’t created any art since
kindergarten. This piece suggests she
should consider creating more often.
A partner in the law firm of Patton,
Cormier and Associates, she graduated
from the University of Saskatchewan and
admits to being interesting, creative and
occasionally polite. In her own words the
inspiration for her piece came from “an
outpouring of music and wine creating a
circular argument for more”.

Kim Groves
Lot #20
Financial Officer,
Financial Services,
tbe University of Western Ontario
She may spend her days dealing with
numbers and spreadsheets but she
is always looking for ways to release
her inner creativity which tends to be
discouraged in the accounting world.
Her innate curiosities led her to an
abstract acrylic course earlier this
year which opened up a new world of
expression. Kim’s artistic style has been
described as free flowing while evoking
aspects of nature.

design and Asian aesthetic.

Joanna Meilleur, Director of Development,
Surfer Dude
Colin Nash
Joanna spent her high school years reading
J.R.R. Tolkien from inside a papier mâché
hobbit hole and pretending to do a math
‘game’ but in actuality she was napping inside
a full-sized parachute. This was a precursor to
a rich and varied education in Toronto, Barrie
and New York. Joanna’s diverse background
has led to several teaching positions, free-lance
writing assignments, and a graphic design
business. She currently holds the position of
Fund Development Director at Wellspring, a
cancer support centre. Joanna’s future plans
include singing a duet with her husband
singer/songwriter Jean Meilleur. Joanna is
thrilled to be part of Artrageous.
One of six brothers, Colin is a fourth
generation Nash caring for the family
biz on Dundas. As part of his training
Colin spent time in San Diego studying
gemology and Virginia Beach for
goldsmithing. He discovered the wonders
of surfing while in school and created
Surfer Dude using his newly acquired
goldsmith skills. The medium is not
gold. We are very grateful to Colin
for surrendering one his very personal
treasures for this year’s Artrageous

in acting, directing, playwrighting and
producing. You can see her at the London

complicated. Robin will be glad to share

purchase this piece.
Exceptional woman and raconteur.
Teresa was born in Redditch, a small
town in the heart of England, which
first was mentioned in recorded history
in 1348, the year the Black Death broke
out. Teresa used to sing for dead people
throughout her public school years, being
the lone singer accompanied by a church
organist at funeral masses. She gave up
her fruitless quest to prove that she was
indeed the twin sister of Wednesday
Addams in order to become the co-owner
of City Lights Bookshop since 1992.
She loves the arts and likes to encourage
people to have that second bag of crisps.
