The said article is really misleading and exaggerative, for not saying we consider it as a black campaign about our country. Concerning your inquiry, our explanations are as follows: Q: A: Is this claims true, that the penalty for masturbation is decapitation? It is totally not true that we imposed decapitation for masturbation penalty. Q : Are there any legal penalties for masturbation? If so what are they? A: Indonesian Penal Code Article 281 stated that for those who purposely and explicitly conduct an immoral behavior will be punished max 2-year and 8-month-imprisonment. As far as we are concerned, similar penalties for such activities, which are exposing him/herself in a public place (including masturbation), are also imposed in other countries, as well as Australia. I Hope the above explanation will meet your inquiries. As I mentioned to you on the phone just now, I work for a program at the ABC called Media Watch, which aims to expose poor, inaccurate or unethical journalism. I am inquiring about an article run in the Adelaide Advertiser newspaper and published on its website at the following address: http://www.news.com.au/travel/story/0,28318,25515729-36335,00.html The article claims that in Indonesia, “The penalty for masturbation is decapitation”. I was hoping you could tell me: 1. Is this claims true, that the penalty for masturbation is decapitation? 2. Are there any legal penalties for masturbation? If so what are they? I realise this is a slightly strange inquiry, but I thank you in advance for your help. Kind regards, Mark Mark Franklin Media Watch, ABC
