California State Polytechnic University, Pomona College of Engineering Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering Position Announcement DEPARTMENT: The Chemical & Materials Engineering Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Materials Engineering at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2014. POSITION TITLE, SALARY AND DESCRIPTION: This tenure-track position will start in September 2014 and be at the Assistant Professor level. Salary is competitive and the benefits package is broad and attractive. The position requires excellence in teaching and advising, professional and scholarly achievements, and service to the university. Materials Engineering faculty teach a broad range of lecture and laboratory courses, including materials science and engineering, mechanical metallurgy, fracture and failure analysis, physical metallurgy, corrosion, ceramics, polymers and emerging technologies in materials engineering. The successful candidate will be expected to develop funded research projects that involve undergraduate students, and engage in all other normal faculty responsibilities and activities such as committee service, student advising, and professional development. Minimum Qualifications: • An earned doctorate in Materials Engineering or similarly named engineering program from an accredited university by August 2014; • Demonstrable skills/potential for teaching a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses, and for developing and implementing laboratory-based experiments in Materials Engineering; • Demonstrable experience/interest in establishing and maintaining sponsored research in a field related to Materials Engineering; • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and • Commitment to and/or experience in educating a diverse student population. Preferred Qualifications: • An undergraduate degree in Materials Engineering preferably from an ABETaccredited or equivalent program; • Research focus in biomaterials; • Ability to support and assist in major departmental, college, and university level initiatives, e.g., strategic planning, outcomes assessment, laboratory; revitalization, curriculum design, etc.; • Record of publication in scholarly journals, and • Ability to work with others in a multi-disciplinary environment.
