2nd Plenary Session: Brand New Kind of Me The 2nd plenary session commenced with an
inspiring meditation delivered by Soror Norma
Solomon White, 25th International President. An
original musical selection celebrating the spirit of
the South Central region brought Sorors to their
feet and set the tone for the introduction of
current International President Carolyn House
Stewart. She reminded members, during the
State of the Sorority, that “if in fact we are
judged by the company that we keep, then
the company ought to inspire us to
greatness”.

CELEBRATING OUR
LEGACIES
From mothers to daughters, grandmothers and other
extended family members, Sorors of all generations
gathered for this year’s Legacy of Leadership
Breakfast. South Central Regional Director Chelle
Luper Wilson was in attendance, along with
International President Carolyn House Stewart.
Legacies, including 18th International President
Mattelia B. Graves and daughters, walked down the
pink carpet. Photos were also taken of
mother/daughter duos in matching outfits.
The breakfast ended with an energetic Legacy
Parade 2nd line, led by Golden Soror Mary Edward
and the Kipp McDonough middle school brass band.
CELEBRATING
OUR CITIZENS
Much like the city of New Orleans, the 11
honorees at the Public Luncheon possess the
qualities of perseverance, tenacity and
steadfastness. The guests of honor ranged from
a pint size Academy Award nominated
actress, Quevanzhane Wallis, to a Louisiana
Supreme Court Judge, Chief Justice Bernette
Joshua Johnson and a university president who
is a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient.
They inspired attendees to continue to persevere
timeless service by remembering that we are
motivated by a sense of pride and a spirit of
community which leads us to meet the needs of
others.
One of the surprises of the luncheon was the
announcement by the Regional Director that four
young ladies in attendance, as her special
guests, were actually the recipients of
scholarships from the Chelle Wilson NOLA
Scholars Fellowship Program. These young
ladies participate in EYL locally and may very
well be honored at a future Public Luncheon as a
result of the influence of Alpha Kappa Alpha in
their lives.
