Golf Study Guide
- When gripping a club, line or point your thumbs down the shaft
toward the club head.
- Stepping up to the ball and getting ready to hit is called the address.
- One of the most common mistakes in golf is swinging too hard.
- When addressing the ball, the top of the club should be 6 inches from
your waist.
- Keep your head down throughout the entire golf swing.
- The only foot that should move at all during your swing is the back
foot.
- The higher the number on the club, the higher the ball will travel in
the air. For example, use a 3 iron for a lower shot and a 9 iron for a
higher shot.
- A golf tee can only be used on the first shot of every hole.
- When keeping score in golf, you count all of your strokes (swings)
even if you miss the ball entirely.
- Par is the number of strokes each hole is rated for. In other words, if
a hole is a par 3, you should try to make it in the hole in 3 strokes.
- A Birdie is one stroke under par.
- An Eagle is two strokes under par.
- A Bogey is one stroke over par.
- A Double Bogey is two strokes over par.
- You should yell “FORE” if your golf ball is traveling toward someone.
