By: Madison Baker The Sadie Hawkins Dance, more commonly called “Sadie’s” by Central students and faculty, has been a long running tradition. The annual winter dance differs from Homecoming and Prom because it is customary for girls to ask boys as their dates. The tone of the dance has always been casual. In recent years, dates began to wear jeans and matching t-shirts. Turn out for Sadie’s has dwindled the past few years. Ecclesia (CHS’s Honors English Club) works to put on the dance and even loses money because of low ticket sales. After speaking with many of his peers, Ecclesia president, Bradley Beyett decided it was time for a change; otherwise there would no longer be a dance. “I figured it was a good time to try something different,” stated Beyett. Sadie Hawkins will be reintroduced in February as a semi-formal dance. It will be put on with the combined efforts of Ecclesia, National Honors Society, and Student Council. Students are encouraged to dress-up in clothes they already own. Not only will students save money but also have a chance to win prizes at the dance. Like anything new, there are mixed opinions on the change. Sophomore, Audrie Adams, expressed excitement for the idea of a winter formal. “I would rather dress up with things I already own than go out and buy a tshirt.” Many students have become accustomed to the tradition of Sadie’s. “I’m a little worried about picking the right dress,” said senior, Christine Reed. “I’m used to just wearing tshirts.” The winter formal has the potential to be a great success. All Central students are encouraged to grab a date or a group of friends, throw on their nice clothes, and attend the dance. It will surely be fun for everyone and the start of a new tradition. Many amazing products were unveiled this year at the convention, Including new technologies like flexible televisions! Lets take a more in-depth look into this new technology. This year television manufacturers have focused their efforts towards both 4K resolution televisions, and a never-before-seen technology, flexible television screens. These screens can be flexed to a curved viewing angle allowing a large, yet easy to view, experience. Why are they flexible? Well when you have a 55” to 105” television it can get a little tough to consume the entire picture. This is where the flexibility comes in. A bend in the screen allows for a more narrow viewing range allowing for larger televisions to be seen in full at closer angles.
