He single handedly introduced a nation that was obsessed with Yakuza tales to a new generation of troublemakers from the streets known affectionately as yanqui. His breakthrough work, BeBop
High School , sold 70 million units in Japan and spun off a number of TV and film tieins. By the nineties, Kiuchi turned his focus on the world of film, where he honed his skills as a mystery film director and screen writer.
Now in his 50’s, Kikuchi has settled down and gone back to publishing. However instead of toiling over comic art, his works are now hardboiled crime fiction told from a very modern eye.

ABOUT THE CONTRIBUTOR
Inio Asano (born 1980) was considered by many to be one of the biggest new names in manga of the ’00’s. Debuting in 1998 Asano was immediately thrust into the manga spotlight by earning praise from luminaries such as Naoki Yamamoto and Shin Takahashi. His acsent to stardom was very quick, and regretfully, the young man went into a bit of a slump soon after. But after four years of struggle and soulsearching as an assistant to some of Japan’s most artisticly respective comickers, Asano came back to become the voice of the modern Japanese
adolescent.
His breaktrough work SOLANIN captivated the globe earning him recognition in Japan and an
Eisner Award nomination in North America. SOLANIN was later adapted into a cultish motion
picture further cementing Asano’s place amongst outsiders globally.
Since 2002 Asano has penned 10 graphic novel series, dozens of short stories, and is now making inroads as one of Japan’s more popular graphic designers. In 2014 his most recent
