In 1724 WILLIAM SWINTON, son of Alexander
Swinton and Margaret Moncrieff emigrated to
South Carolina, USA probably accompanied by
his brother Hugh. He went on to do extensive
surveys in Georgtown County and township,
becoming known in the family as the
“Royal Surveyor to the Crown”.
