We shared our happies and crappies. Play-Doh Pictionary was our entertainment for the evening. We had a lot of wild guesses and laughter as we attempted to create sculptures of blocks, dog, cat, sleep, submarine, and many more challenging things. Mark you calendar for the Youth ENERGY Potato Bake on Wednesday, February 18 at Calvin! January 28 was our movie night. We watched “When the Game Stands Tall” at Jon De Wild’s home theater in Hull. We even had unlimited movie theater popcorn as our snack. The movie is a sports drama that reminded us what a good team player is and how important it is to think of the needs of others before yourself. Outreach Ministry at Calvin On Sunday, February 1, after much anticipation, a surprise announcement was made about an awesome opportunity for Calvin CRC. Recently, Calvin Church was blessed with a large anonymous donation for outreach. This donation has the potential to last ten years or better at Calvin to help fund our church family in becoming the hands and feet of Christ. The council created a committee to help oversee and distribute the funds. Members of the committee are: Todd Visser, Corwin Harthoorn, Les Burggraaf, Myron Klarenbeek, and Helen Cannegieter. These members meet on a regular basis and will review requests for financial resources to be used in different outreach ventures. These funds will provide many opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our community, our nation, and our world. Outreach can have many different faces. Just a few examples of what the fund could help with is the trip that was taken to Guatemala by a few of our members, the Haiti trip, the trip to Utah, the Youth ENERGY SERVE trip, or any mission oriented trip. The opportunities available are not just limited to taking mission trips. The common theme of how these funds should be used should help the light of Jesus shine throughout, not only the world, but even our local community. We do not need to cross an ocean or fly across the United States to share the love of Christ. Opportunities to spread Jesus’ word can be found right in Rock Valley, Sioux County, and Northwest Iowa. If you have an idea you would like to share with the committee and would like to receive funds to help with the cost of your venture, please fill out a request form found on the back table in the fellowship hall at Calvin. Forms can be returned to any member of the outreach committee. The goal is not to limit anyone in receiving these funds. The possibilities are endless. The committee asks that you keep an open mind on all of the ideas that you may have. Please ask. The funds were meant to be used in a manner of spreading the love of Christ all over the world or community. Calvin has been given an amazing opportunity to go beyond the walls of the church and share our love for Jesus. The Challege The first project of the Outreach committee is a challenge for the members of Calvin. Go out and be the hands and feet of Christ. Each family will be given an envelope containing three items. 1. a $50 bill to used to pay it forward in Jesus’ Name. Use these funds to bless someone or some people. 2. A card. Fill out this card to share with the committee how many people were touched by your act of paying it forward. The card can be returned to the box on the back table in the fellowship hall. 3. A request form. This is just an idea of what the criteria is for requesting funds from the outreach fund. How can you reach out?
